Chronograph

+1 on the magnetospeed V3. Got mine from Spud. So simply and saves walking down range to setup. Just use the heat shield that comes in the kit if attaching to a mod.

Again a users view rather than a sales pitch, I use the Magnetospeed V3, best out there IMO, use with or without a mod, varying spacers included to cover most if not all scenarios. So easy to use, attach and shoot, no worries of placement 4 or 5 yards away, easy readout, saves all your strings of shots, comprehensive displays data, can download to your computer. Brill bit of kit.
Go to March Scopes, £375 including next day delivery, https://www.marchscopes.co.uk/index.php/en/march-accessories/magnetospeed-chronograph
absolutely great service, posted and received as promised, not always the case with some so called dealers.

The new Magneto Sporter looks like it may be pretty good. Quite a price difference too. Might be worth the wait.

Ive got a f1 chrony, good bit of kit, I always use it, I wouldnt bother with magnospeed chrony,I cant see you will shoot any good with one of them strapped to the barrels and change the harmonics and bad for accuracy.

+1 For the F1 Chrony - Can be had here for less than £100. A simple homemade remote button gives you access to more data.

I use a CED. Saves your strings and does most of the analysis such as hi/lo/av/sd etc that most of us would use. Mine came with a printer and you can download software for the PC to transfer to that if you want to do more with your results.

My understanding from those who use the magnetospeed is that there is minimal affect on accuracy. Perhaps JCS can comment

I note minimal change in POI when I use the magnetospeed. However, when I'm shooting with the magnetospeed it's typically after I've firmed up a load and I'm just shooting to check velocities - nothing more. There may be rifles/loads where the magnetospeed does impact, but I don't see this issue with my set-up.

Thanks for the replies, it seems the V3 is the kiddie, will have a look at that one.

Thanks

Don't be so quick, Archie.
A chronograph is a very useful tool beyond just measuring speed and with a barrel mounted Chronograph you lose one of it's best features. By firing over a chronograph at 15 ft and then moving the chrono down range 50 or 100 yards and firing another string across it, you can easily plot the ACTUAL ballistic coefficient** of the bullet. A barrel mounted chronograph will give you just (yawn!) how fast the bullet is traveling.... leaving you to guess on the most vital parts of the exterior ballistic picture.~Muir

(**Based on the velocity, altitude, barometric pressure, temperature, humidity of your locale)

i have the pro chrono very good until it starts to go wrong ? , but the best advise would for a few of you get one between you if thats the case then buy the pro as Muir states you can do more with it.

(YAWN!!!!!) You need to get out more. Velocity along with a Ballistic Calculator works perfectly for me. As for trying to shoot through/over a chrono out too 100 yards, very smart and a good reason so many are for sale as spares.
