Hi, What a great thread. Sitting in chair knee throbbing been up since 01.45 this morning (bring on op please) Just watched football over the top of laptop.
This brought back some good memories. I was giving permition to shoot a few red hinds for helping keeper throw-out the year. This was around 25 year ago. Then he said do you fancy going for a stag I'll take you when they come in. Time finally came up we went landy towing argo cat, arrived at moor cat off and up we went. Then on foot up some more, seen some hinds then I heard a roar what the **** was that I said. That is what were after that's a stag roaring first time I ever heard it for real. I could feel every hair on my body stand out with excitement. About an hour later we could get into him, But all I could see was the top of his antlers as he was going up and down roaring keeping his hinds in. Keeper just kept saying you'll never hear a better sound, be patient he will come up what seemed to be for ever actually around twenty min then he came up what a beast he was massive. Calm down I was told he doesn't know we are hear. Opportunity came bipod down 7mm ready looked throw scope take your time breath that's it when your ready squeeze. Shot went off I could not see him I was assured everything was ok he was down. Walked over around 130 yards their he was a magnificent beast to me 12 pointer shot clean throw heart/lungs. This was my first stag remember it as if it was yesterday.
