  1. Optilock - Sako 85S

If the scope is too far forward, then you definitely need long bases, no question.
  2. Non-toxic .223 ammo in Ireland?

I've been asked to clear feral goats from an area, and the landowner wants only non-toxic ammunition used. I've been using Sako Blade 120gr. copper in my 6.5x55 to very good effect on sika, but would like to take the .223 for this, since the bullets are cheaper and I haven't been getting the...
  3. Opinel knives steel temper

Many thanks, Bowland. Will check out your videos 👍
  4. Opinel knives steel temper

The blade has definitely never been heated after leaving the factory, nor is it bent. I use the Lansky system where the angle of the varying grades of sharpening stone are fixed (I always set them at 25 degrees), making sure strokes are towards the blade, not away. Not sure what you mean about...
  5. Opinel knives steel temper

Already have bought another, I'm really just curious as to what's going on with the old one!
  6. Opinel knives steel temper

This might be the problem, thanks @weblyish
  7. Opinel knives steel temper

I have a couple of trusty no. 12 Opinel pocket knives in basic format, ie in regular carbon steel with beech handles. One is about 10 years old and well worn, the other is only 2-3 years old. I use a Lansky sharpening set on both, applying exactly the same treatment, but the older knife just...
  8. Wanted: Sako 75 barrel

Thanks again for the info, Ronin. Good to know 👍
  9. Wanted: Sako 75 barrel

Tks Ronin, always learning! If the headspace is wrong in such a case, can it be corrected? And, if so, would there be much work (thus expense) in that?
  10. Wanted: Sako 75 barrel

This is interesting, I always thought 75/85/T3 barrels were identical and thus interchangeable. Good to know.
  11. Bullet fell into water, still usable?

Lots of interesting replies, thanks to all. I reckon @enfieldspares is right on the money though, in saying that while the cartridge will almost certainly be fine, the thought that I might spend a half a day putting a lot of effort into getting a deer in my sights to then risk it all going...
  12. Bullet fell into water, still usable?

Many thanks for the reply, very informative. And your philosophy about the bullet "not being right in my head" is bang on, confidence in all your equipment is vital when out stalking. I was thinking I'd set it aside for zeroing whenever the need next arises alright. I'm in the Republic of...
  13. Bullet fell into water, still usable?

So I shot a sika yesterday, and as always cycled the bolt immediately on taking the shot. On locating the dead deer, I made the gun safe by unchambering the unspent round, but, instead of pushing it down into the mag as I normally do on opening the bolt (the rifle is a Sako 75, which allows...
