Hi all,

Looking to purchase my first .243!
Currently own .17Hmr Weihrauch Hw60j cracking little gun.

Trying to stay within a budget of £1500-2000

What would be your go to brand and model? Im keen to hear reasons for and against other people’s preferences.

Im kind of set on the Mauser M12 Impact but keep being told I could get a lot more gun for my money. …. Howa 1500, Bergara b14.

Set up needed mainly for fox control with occasional deer. So will be fitted with day/night scope.

Thanks in Advance for your help and advice.

I got a M12 impact in 243 a while ago but really didn't like it. Looked smart and shot ok zeroing it but stock and fore end was like a wobbly banana. Managed to get a refund and got another T3X. Cant go wrong with a tikka, does its job.

I do like the look of the merkel helix alpine or maybe one of the sake S20 models.

I really like the Sako S20 look but the price just keeps creeping away from my budget….

Tikka T3X lite and use what's left in your budget for an Arken/DNY Zulus 520R

Cheers

Have you shot 1 before?? I’m intrigued to know if it’s purely budget or are they decent
I've got one, along with a tikka. I feel they're far better value for money than a tikka along with a mass of after market parts/bits available.

If Bergara did a 1-8 243, I'd have probably had one of those instead. I like my tikka but I've changed my stock instantly because they're cheap tupperware stocks and very flexy

I was about to recommend you buy an M12 Max. I have had one for years and it cost around £1500. Just looked up the price. Christ how can inflation have upped the cost that much in what must only be about 7yrs. That is insane.

Buy a Tikka.

If your budget of £1500-2000 is just for the rifle I'd buy a Tikka second hand and put it in a PSE or GGS stock. You'll get a very accurate rifle with a top end adjustable stock which is very light, rigid and ergonomic. It will be way better than a brand new Tikka and hold it's value better too.

The world is your oyster with that kind of budget!
You could get a 2nd hand 243 for a 10th of that price, and spend the rest on good glass and some stalking.

Most people will recommend what they have/like.

Try as many different rifles as you can, even better if you can test fire them. If it doesn’t feel right it will never be right.

Try Steve at Ivythorne sporting, he’s not to far you.

It'd be worth looking at Howa, decent rifles, pick and mix style build list. Loads of stock choices.
A Howa will also leave plenty in your budget for a decent scope.

Just because I have one. You might like to look at a Kimber. I have one in 243 it is very light weight and super accurate plus looks lovely. I bought mine second hand for £600 and money could not buy it from now.
