Evening all.
So, I may have my 243 variation being granted (call from.feo to say they are going to recommend it)

Looking at 4 possible setups (very little spare cash for anything posh) I only have RF so new to CF buying.

1. Possible P-H setup with mod, scope, etc. Will have to be RFD transferred so about £500 (no chance to see the kit beforehand and PITA to return, if an option)

2. Bare browning a bolt, 2nd hand but sold as little used. Don't think FRD can supply mod , but TBC.. can pick up 3cal mod from another local RFD for £250. So about £600 for gun &mod. Can look at gun.

3. Same Rfd, Winchester xpr stealth.
£550, brand new. Again bare so would need mod at £250.

4. Possible Bergara B14, with mod and basic scope at just shy of £1k

Which would you pick?

2 & 3 close enough to handle, 4 a bit of a drive, but doable.

Cheers, TD66

P.s. don't do never never, so saving up for it!

Pps. Have enough scopes kicking about to get me off the ground.

With the Winchester the back button must be the safety and the smaller one the bolt release?
Have had a Rem 700 for 14 years not missed a beat with a pull through and a clean
The Win looks fine and they have been making guns for quite a while all I can offer
Good luck

If you can find a Winchester 70 coyote in 243 then I can thoroughly recommend one.
Mine SH was £550 and is a tack driver - its nickname is the scalpel!!

The Bergara I like box mag, possibly it has a better trigger than a Winchester.
Second the Winchester its new. The Browning are nice too. Do you have to thread it for a moderator?
Last the P-H its an old rifle I would have to try it before the buy. I dont like mauser style actions either.

If you put an ad on here you might find a 243 set up you can shoot for reasonable money. And ivythorne can’t be too far (“southwest”?) they will let you test drive.

That’s plenty of cash to get something very serviceable.

2 of my Rimfires were from Steve and more than happy with them, he has nothing listed that fits my budget apart from a Howa "that should hit a tennis ball at 100yds "
Should give him a shout to see if he has anything not listed?

Also got a wanted add up already 😉

Cheers

I wouldn’t go with any of the options you have highlighted. Instead, I would be looking to pick up one of the few stainless Howas still available on Guntrader. Don’t take any notice of anyone that says the Hogue stocks are rubbish. Speaking from personal experience, there’s nothing wrong with them for stalking and the stock can always be upgraded to a Bell and Carlson Medallist at a later date.

Yes as per post, put an add on here and the doors will open ( To some cabinets)

Tikka with a Pard DS35 on top. All problems solved. New Tikka with the 'new' 1:8 twist rate is your best option. You're then setup for day/night and deer without any extras.
