Leica Amplus 6 vs Zeiss V6

Having read this thread a few times, at a certain level cost does not necessarily translate to meaningful quality for the end user.

Comparing the Amplus 2-15 with the zeiss V6 3-18 and V4 6-24 and 4-16, the Amplus is on a par at with the V6 and to some eyes better with illumination. The V4 in all guises is miles behind the Amplus, some like it I have never got in with them.

The Amplus and s not as cosmetically pleasing, it is a solid functional scope with very good glass in my opinion, having owned just about every high scope the Amplus in terms of a Stalking Scope is up with the top end stuff. I have compared it to the Magnus and Fortis, do they have nicer features yes. Do they have theoretical better glass ? Yes. Can the human eye really make the difference out to the tune of £5-1000 quid more? Mine can’t.

Glass is objective, once you get north of the budget end scopes individual choice and eyes come in to play much more.

I would say take Colin up on his offer always welcome to have a look at mine as well. If you can spare a day to nip up to Kirkmichael I am due a range trip tomorrow. You can have a look at the glass on a rifle.

The 3-18 will be having its first outing tomorrow.

Brilliant cheers guys. Yeah think smaller objective would suit the lightweight rifle I’m putting together. Illumination a nice bonus too! Main concern was that optics wouldn’t be as good, and the slight weight increase in the Leica.
There is a reason why there is a weight difference. The tube thickness ( not the size of the tube which is 30mm), but the thickness of the material. As I work for the company, It would be wrong to quote the relevant thickness of each competitor, but as I have also worked for 18 yrs with a competitor, there is a known reason why. However things can always change.
As for which is best. Your eyes will determine that, for some it is brand x, for other brand y and for others brand z. If one has a bias for a particular brand nothing wrong in that, our eyes are different and our own eyes would not pick up on the data available through calibrated testing.

Just wondering how you guys got on with your new amplus 3x18 scopes.
I'm thinking about changing to one as well.

Yes it's a cracking scope. Got mine zeroed on Saturday and have no complaints
I can't see there being much light gathering lost compared to the 2.5-15 I have 👍

Finally got to the range today, life kept getting in the way. The 3-18 performed very well on a full rainy day. So far very happy with the scope. It will have a stalking outing over the weekend.

I bought the Ampulus from Macleods the 2.5-15-56 I could have theoretically shot a crow last light in field next to the house
Looks well built, and glass very clear
Clicks are good
Overall very pleased at the price

The elevation turret on the 3-18x44 Amplus has a zero stop but not a lock, from your experience how likely is it the turret could be inadvertently moved, for instance when the rifle is being carried & perhaps rubbing against someones coat?

I've had mine for must be 2 years now, and it's never happened.
I have the 2.5-15x56, 3-18x44 and the 5-25x56 PRS. Neither have had an issue in this regards.

In fact I can't say I've even had an issue with any of my scopes over the years

I have a 3-18x44 on my .222rem and it is used a lot. It has very smooth clicks rather than hard clicks but it takes some force to move it. It has never ever moved without me doing it. I would say it is highly unlikely it would ever be moved unintentionally.
