FAC Renewal with Met FET

My FAC is up for renewal, and due to unexpected delay with the GP certificate, it looks like it will not be renewed before the current FAC expires.

I have been advised by the FET that my firearms and ammunition need to be stored with an RFD. They are currently stored at the NSC armoury in Bisley. I have called them up, and they quoted over the phone 'RFD 32 SURREY'. However, Googling it doesn't yield any results. I'd like to be sure that I am providing the FET with the correct RFD number. Is there anywhere a list or a website where the RFD number can be confirmed?

if you put in the renewal in time, I thought that they were giving a renewal or a reg 7 notice???
if a member of BASC worth giving them a call. Also if submitted in time, I would be asking who I sent the bill to for the storage?

8 weeks is the statutory minimum for the receipt of the completed submission prior to the certificate expiry date.. I had mine submitted with Cams 15 weeks prior to expiry and was granted the automatic extension of 8 weeks, before a temporary certificate was then issued prior to the lapse of the extension..

If you submit your renewal before the 8 weeks without the medical certificate is that then your fault that you have not complied and have to have your firearms stored with an RFD ?

Probably because he needs to submit the renewal paperwork with the GP form & that’s been delayed so his renewal is past the 8 week cut off for an automatic extension.

Donkey Basher is correct, I did not expect that obtaining the GP form will take as long as it did. I vaguely remember that when I last renewed my FAC back in 2020, I was asked for my GP details, but I think that they contacted the GP directly - I don't recall having to upload the completed GP form as part of the application process. The issue is that the online application has to be completed in one go - i.e. you can't save the form - and my concern was that I will not able to submit the applications without uploading the GP form at the same time. I may be wrong, of course, and possibly I would have been able to submit the application and then provide the GP form separately via email - I do not know.

Why haven't they automatically extended your FAC?

I am a member of the NRA, but not BASC. My firearms are currently stored at the NSC armoury in Bisley for another reason (not related to the FAC renewal), and so keeping them there is not an issue. The email I received from the FET stated that once my FAC expires I must store the firearms at an RFD and provide them with the RFD number, hence my original post. I did phone up the armoury and was quoted 'RFD 32 SURREY', but the line wasn't good, and so I wanted to double-check this, to make sure I do not provide the FET with an incorrect RFD number. Thank you again, @Elshad .

I don't know, and I did not realise that this was an option. The email I received from the Met FET simply stated that once my FAC expires, I must store the firearms at an RFD.

To clarify, I have no issue with waiting for the FAC to be renewed, and I have no issue with having my firearms stored where they are - I just wanted to make sure that I do everything by the book. Since the Lord Cullen report in 1996, minor transgressions relating to firearms are no longer overlooked.... (and rightly so, I suppose).

I didn't have my medical form completed prior to my on line application just skipped that section. Submitted and fine. I gave the completed forms to my FEO when he visited. However they were returned to.me a week later as the GP did not complete the last consultation date. So had it completed and sent in again!
Not an issue and FAC re issued.
Appears in A@S if there is a time delay in getting GP forms they automatically put your FAC on an extension.
Clearly the MET are pulling a fast one and not following best practice.

To be fair..the Met were very efficient / helpful when I renewed my Fac a couple of years ago.
I did however do it well before the 8 weeks..but was granted the 8 weeks extension anyway!
Now the Feo who visited explained their office is now located in Kent.

Thank You to all those who replied.

I have two further questions regarding the renewal...

The first is that they are now asking - for the first time - about the make and model, and BS of the cabinet. Mine was purchased over 20 years ago, I do not have a record of the manufacturer, and there is no manufacturer's information anywhere where I can see on the cabinet itself (there may be some on the back, though I'd have to remove it from the wall to check). Has anyone been in this position before, and if so, will the FEO insist on me providing the make and model, or will they likely suffice with a physical inspection?

Then, they are now asking information about anyone who has unsupervised access to the property. I can obviously provide a list of current keyholders, but I am not sure what are the implications of this question - will I be required to let the police know every time a keyholder is added or removed? And will I not be able to leave someone alone in the house - e.g. a guest to whom we'll give a set of keys to come and go when they please?

I have never been asked this before... any light you can shed on these issues will be appreciated.

In all honesty..those questions should be best directed / discussed with your current Feo.

I will do, when they arrange a visit... I just submitted my application and was wondering about these two questions, as I've not been asked these things before.

Just done virtually the exact same thing with Wiltshire, same timeframe and got the same result. Temp Certificate extending mine from expiry 26/10/25 to 26/12/25. No physical certificate. Just if police stop you they verify through the system.

Your having your trousers pulled down.
Again show the FEO the cabinet and if it conforms to the HO guidance then no issues.

In my case the feo was experienced..I’ve got quite a well known brand of cabinet.
The previous Feo did give it a tug…
