Pet cat shot dead by hunter with thermal scope
A man told a court that he shot and accidentally killed a family's pet cat which he thought was a fox.
Its not the lack of knowledge / training that creates this sort of thing ( so i do not think yet another BASC / BDS trick to squeeze cash out of the UK shooters will do anything ! ) . Besides create another income stream for the providers !Too late:

We have very similar laws . Cats are not allowed to roam free , period . The same applies to dogs . In urban settings , your pet will be impounded if it's seen wandering about . In rural areas , they will be shot if they can't be captured by authorities. If they have a tag , which by law they're supposed to have , the owner will be fined and charged for the disposal fees . It is standard practice to shoot cats on sight out here . They are a destructive and invasive species and have no place in the ecology here . I love cats and dogs , but they belong in the home .Here in Germany the hunting law states that any cat that is detected further than 300m from a residence may be shot, end of.
My jagdherr (leaseholder) where I hunt shoots them all.
I see many cats prowling about through the thermal and them also sitting waiting for prey to pass by.
A long standing thing where Cats are not " in Hand " and dogs are "in Hand " . You can shoot a dog that attacks your sheep but you cannot shoot a cat that's killing your pheasants . It is what it is In LawCats should be treated like dogs if can't keep them under control then keep them on a lead. Dogs can't just go about shitting in gardens and kill anything they like so why is it ok for cats
You can stop them hunting outside, keep them inside
People walk pigs on a lead so a good shout![]()

They can have their collar back no worries.Interesting to hear so many folk advocating NV over thermal for final ID?
I was of exactly the same opinion until very recently & it is only after many years of watching the differing movement/behaviour patterns of various quarry that I felt confident enough to move across to full thermal. Having said that, & even with the massive advances in modern Thermal technology, I now get those nights where I choose not to take a shot for the lack of that final ‘visual’ ID & personally feel that I have just hit a whole new incline on my ‘learning curve’. Still really like the ability to shoot completely passively though, as I’m sure anyone who has tried sorting IR shy foxes would agree (I would clarify that I’ve never managed to find a 940nm that gave the ranges/clarity for effective control over open farmland)?
Incidentally, I also know a good few cat owners who now have GPS tags on their pets collars. Cheap & very accurate by all accounts……. probably easier to start checking your 3rd Party Liability Insurance than to try explaining that one away???
No but owners can/do hang their dog poo bags like xmas tree decorations along the hedges of footpaths, (just to keep a even balance in the thread lol)Cats should be treated like dogs if can't keep them under control then keep them on a lead. Dogs can't just go about shitting in gardens and kill anything they like so why is it ok for cats
Thermal? Isn't that Level 2 for thermal? I thought Level 1 was using a handheld lamp?Anyone for a BASC sponsored Night Shooting Certificate L1?
Me too,but I couldn’t eat a whole one …..That's why I stick to NV. Love cats me![]()
I take it, he had his Firearms cert revoked ??£520 poorer, which seems fair.
Charles Bolton, of Bishops Frome, appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates' court accused of criminal damage in relation to killing the cat.
Bolton, pleaded guilty to the single charge at the court on Monday afternoon, August 26.
Camila Toscano, of the Crown Prosecution Service, told the court that the incident happened on May 30.
Bolton was fined £224, ordered to pay £120 compensation, £85 costs and a £90 victim surcharge.
Wrong, cat is not lawful quarry, so be careful - get your facts right before encouraging actions that could get your licence revokedOh hell! Crack on then lol
