Shooting quad sticks

Morning all. lots of discussion on here over the last few days about quad stick. Never used a set in my life before, always used 2 green garden cains bolted together as bipod sticks or shot off a bipod, tree etc etc. now things have changed and maybe a set of quads are the way to go for me so I'm thinking of getting a set.

lots of options are available, what's your recommendation and why?

I have Viper Flex journey + sticks with the 5th leg - bloody expensive but great quality and work for me. You could easily make a set of quads with green garden canes.

I'm happy to shoot out to 200 off the sticks I have...buy once cry once :)
yes those are not cheep, but that's what i want to do, buy once. not get something and then want/need to upgrade two months later.

You could make a set of the DIY quadsticks, give them a go and if you dont like them you havent wasted much money. I knew guys who had the Viperflex sticks and got on well with them so bit the bullet and went for it.

Drop @takbok a pm, I trailed his proto type printed "heads & feet" design and use them a lot, I like a V-V and both ends as his ones mirrored the x2 V b&q sticks I have used for years.
Lots will have the flat front yoke type and often use the words "you can track a deer with them" I sit in the least movement camp as quite often people zero their rifle off a bench/bags to keep the movement to the minimum so they can repeat the same shot.
How many times do you see a couple of beer mats under the leg of a pub table to stop the wobble lol
From a cost and learning point x 4 b&q sticks was the better option for me, the facts are people miss with 15 quid sticks just as well as a 250 pound set. I can replace mine for 15quid if they are broken or lost a second set of the expensive ones you are now in the hole for 500 telling the wife all sorts of lies lol

My only observation from experience is that it's easy to move the v type to track on arable land, but not as practical on hill or forest where flat yoke comes in handy.

As you say, it's easy to spend money on things that aren't required. I find that the less people know, the more they compensate with spending and unnecessary complexity.

Very much with you on this, I have shot foxes/deer with one set of my quads on the headland and the other leg down in the deep first furrow which is at least a foot lower, people shoot running boar free hand very well I shoot ducks often on one knee on the marsh, you just need to know where the gun and quarry is and dismiss the rest. It is a wonder people manage to drive themselves to their stalking ground working the clutch (or auto) brake steering sat nav and not forget their bolt.

Blaser carbon quads with the limited traverse option: A game changer for me. No more “quad stick shuffle” when Mr. Munty just won’t stand still.

Buy quality and only cry once.

I use 4 dowels bolted together with pan head machine screws and nylok nuts, cost about £25 all in. Same set up I’ve used for years and very stable, some of my mates use the same, others use Blaser or Viperflex quads, but having tried them I can’t justify the cost as what I use has always worked for me. Haven’t got any pictures of them deployed but below gives you an idea.

Spartan operate out of my village. I daren't visit as it'll cost me far too much money.

I'm currently using the bushwear quads, but have a set of pauperflex carbon to go together because I hate the cold of the bushwear ones.

With practice, people can be amazed how accurate you can be when using quad sticks. My first annual firearms course at work saw me shooting 300m on steel, with a 308, and I was sold on them!

You can make your own from metal garden canes but I've used Seeland quad sticks for years. Around £100/£120 new.
It is only recently that I decided to treat myself, (yes, I'm a kit whore, or tackle tart as we call it in fishing terms), to a set of viper flex pro carbon stocks with a 5th leg, just because I fancied them. Unbelievably stable and they now have a wider front rest to allow for more movement if needed.
I will be practising from them out to 500 yards or so this summer ON STEEL I hasten to add, again, just because I fancy it.

4 Stable Sticks, aluminium ones are 837g at around £75, if that’s too heavy for you they do carbon fibre. They also fit in one hand without getting cramp, each leg being about 16mm. Not sure why you need a fifth leg, that suggests the technique needs a bit of work.

I've got a set of viperflex elites turning up tomorrow. It will be a first time on quads for me, so if you see a bloke in a field near Doncaster tangled up in a set of sticks with a rifle round his neck give him a beep👍

Get some vet wrap from eBay; it's as cheap as chips, and wrap the pole sections not covered with the neoprene. It deadens the clatter and makes them warm to the touch.

Carbon viperflex sticks.
Expensive but paid for many times over given the amount of deer culled, processed and sold. Also accounted for plenty of foxes. Solid out to 200+m IF needed, light to carry and easy to use. No point having great kit if your shooting sticks aren't great too.

This has been done to death on several occasions on the site - there are even threads telling you how to make your own.
Whatever you consider make sure there's some movement possible at the front fork whether the quads are top end carbon (loadsa ££) or B&Q plastic covered poles (£25) with a strap hung between the front pole tips which creates a V when the rifle is on it and gives enough lateral fine tuning movement should you need it - just like mine!
NB
Some makes with a hard rail on the front are inclined to tip the rail downwards if your rifle is not centred on it - just when you need a solid base most! Dreadful design flaw….
