Best take down .243 rifle?

Currently I stalk in the Scottish highlands with my .270 and in general the hotels up here don't bat an eyelid when I take my cased gun in, however its not so simple down south or when travelling south to walk through the reception with what is obviously a rifle in a hard case. Looking to find a take down or similar that can be a bit more discreet - I thought Sauer's were but seems to be on the single shot rifles now. Welcome any suggestions - looking for .243 ..thanks

I don't care what people say about holding zero, I don't trust a take down rifle/scope until I'd checked zero.

I have a hard black plastic case covered in dewalt and makita stickers. No one bats an eye lid on the train. I wouldn't take even a take down gun into an office. Id prefer to leave it in parked in a car all day, CCTV protected car park etc, covered and bolt and ammo comes with me.

Depends tbh.

My moneys on a blaser R8/K95

Or a bergara

Dont really rate merkle as a brand and having owned a sauer 404. Its a great takedown but not as efficient/easy as the r8

Leave the rifle locked in the boot of your car. Bolt, magazine and ammunition with you in your bag in your room. This follows the Home Office Guidance

Paragraph 19.48 goes on to recommend “If the vehicle is left unattended for any reason, firearms should be concealed, preferably in the locked luggage compartment and (where practicable), an essential component such as the bolt or foreend removed and kept in possession of the responsible person. Where possible any ammunition should be stored separately from the firearm and this too should be concealed from view. The vehicle should be locked, and any immobiliser or alarm should be set. If possible, the vehicle should be parked within the sight of the responsible person”.

You can reasonably argue that a locked modern car with an alarm etc parked in hotel car park is more secure than a hotel bedroom where the hotel management can access your room with a master key etc.

For additional security you can add a padlock or similar through the action.

However walking into a hotel dressed in hunting gear etc slightly gives the game away. Rather than a huge hard case, a slip is a lot more discreet.

I use a blaser case when having to stay in a hotel, the case doesn’t turn an eye, and sensible attire, not one staff or anyone has asked or give it a second look, chain the case to the radiator and the bolt /ammo in the truck under the seat in a key safe

Never had any issues with any blaser not keeping zero

I was sceptical of the return to zero with a takedown ba13, so bit the bullet so to speak and got one in 6.5 creedmoor. Brilliant little gun and more than accurate enough. Can cloverleaf homeloads off sticks at 100yards, break the gun fully down and repeat at 250, all within 2 inches. I don't regret it at all.

Thanks all, some great comments, I’ll take a look at the options over the coming weeks. The Bergara does look interesting though
I can highly recommend the B13 , fantastic little rifle . If you ever come to Wales I can give you a full on demo , but my one is 222 and it’s a lazer. 👍🏻
