Leave the rifle locked in the boot of your car. Bolt, magazine and ammunition with you in your bag in your room. This follows the Home Office Guidance
Paragraph 19.48 goes on to recommend “If the vehicle is left unattended for any reason, firearms should be concealed, preferably in the locked luggage compartment and (where practicable), an essential component such as the bolt or foreend removed and kept in possession of the responsible person. Where possible any ammunition should be stored separately from the firearm and this too should be concealed from view. The vehicle should be locked, and any immobiliser or alarm should be set. If possible, the vehicle should be parked within the sight of the responsible person”.
You can reasonably argue that a locked modern car with an alarm etc parked in hotel car park is more secure than a hotel bedroom where the hotel management can access your room with a master key etc.
For additional security you can add a padlock or similar through the action.
However walking into a hotel dressed in hunting gear etc slightly gives the game away. Rather than a huge hard case, a slip is a lot more discreet.
