Lead Ban

Already a thread on this:

I’d suspect this may be fatal to British manufacturers. Another entirely needless act of national self-harm which has no redeeming benefits whatsoever.
There seems to be nothing available in 20 bore apart from bismuth and aspirational stocklists of barrel damaging steel with its equally damaging biowads. Apparently the maize based ones leave sticky deposits in the barrels leading to ring bulges if the steel hasn't done so first!

Like to see them loading steel in a 410 ,theyll get 3 pellets in big enough to kill a bird . Standard 2 3/4 inch cartridges with 32 grams lead will need to be 3 inch to carry the same amount in steel .Basc lay down to them again .Steel is **** lets face it and in the speeds the uk allows even worse .

More and more information that EU can't agree on a full lead ban. So many countries want exceptions re lead and rifles. However, with shotguns probably agreement i.e. non lead.
Will be a difficult situation now that some countries in EU already have imposed lead bans f.e. Denmark. EU statues say rules must be same all over the union. Free movement of goods and capital etc

A recent news item stated that banning lead will prevent pollution of our rivers!!

Hungary I believe has just okayed lead for historical firearms. I believe it's because they have FREAKING COMMON SENSE!

I have been clay shooting today at Kingsferry Gun Club, using steel. No problems. I am going after squirrels and pigeons tomorrow, and will be using lead. No problems. Why did the shooting organisations rush us headlong into snatching defeat from victory ?

This table is from one of the HSE studies. If you take away target shooting, where the lead is localised and has the potential to be collected, its staggering that live quarry shooting, produces 533 times more lead than live quarry with rifles.

Within live quarry shotgun shooting, I suspect the majority of lead is released by large scale industrial shoots for wealthy finance guys. At some of these days, one person will fire more shots than I do in two years of rough shooting. I get it that big shoots employ people - game keepers, beaters, picker-uppers and filling accommodation etc.

But I am hoping that someone sees sense and provides an exemption for the small scale one-for-the-potters. Frankly its none of the government's business if I shoot a bird on my own land and eat it, the lead released is inconsequential.

The finance guy's gun is probably new so steel proofed anyway, but if they have to buy a new gun its nothing compared to the total cost of shooting. However for some people buying a new gun or bismuth will be a huge outlay, not to think of the teenagers learning who won't even be able to source ammo for their 410s/28/20/16/2 inch 12 bores.

Interestingly this came up on a Fb page.

There’s a Translate button in the top right of the site.

Basically saying they are realising to go full non-lead means ammo for the armed forces would be affected by factories having to change their manufacturing.

Said recently that what with Putin hitting lead mining and production would be really dumb.
Not that being dumb ever stopped a politician mind ....
