A few differed grit options. I went course, 400/800, for garden shears etc not using it on knives.
I much prefer diamond stones Also 400 and 800 is too great a leap in grits . Faithful tools have a pretty good 3x grit that's inexpensive and needs no water or oil , easy to learn "Its a sad fact that a great amount of knife sharpening stones and gadgets "

What about 1000/ 6000?
1000 grit is as fine a grit anyone needs for deer work 1500 . One caked up stag with mud and **** stag will be chipped and rolled over or chipped as soon as the stalker has bled and green gralloched a stag . real fine edges so sharp you could shave your pubes are not going to last a good session
