Bespoke Deer larder

I think your correct i also think that SAOS pushing them is wrong the grant scheme is for all and the choice should lie totally with the consumer.

Adexa do a small walk in fridge for 2k. 1.5 x 2.2 x 2.4m All built out of panels. But at 2k it would make a cracking deer chiller.
I build these (and proofers) for bakeries from time to time. But much bigger. Really easy. Just get the refrigeration guys in when you're done to have the chiller pack brazed and gassed.

CFI is a French brand we install. Can't tell you how much they are as I don't get involved on that side.

A Landig (or similar) is on my wish wist so I’m quite interested in people’s views on the product be they positive or negative. So the questions below are not an implicit argument against your views, they are asked just to better inform me when I make my own choice.

You said it's 'bespoke' - in what way, I'm aware there's a few options but nothing that I'd consider 'bespoke'.

You mentioned the unit can’t be moved to clean under it - as I understand it, the 9000 is on short legs so what prevents the moving / cleaning?

You said it's not ready to take deer & without “deer bars” - I think a third rail is an option but didn't it come with a couple of rails installed anyway?

It obviously fell short of your expectations - but what were you expecting relative to what you got?
Webley i expected a stainless steel deer fridge on wheels to meet hygiene standards eg easy move to clean under light and integral deer rails as advertised. The saos deer scheme is run for deer managers to shoot more deer and make sure that the deer can entre the food chain. With health and safety regards lifting of carcases in to the chill.. This was not a scheme for fridges it was for a small deer larder. So this post is saying to deer managers you have a choice of any fridge and make sure if that choice is Landig make sure you by the larger units that are fit for Purpose.

Porkka has been recommended to me by a refrigeration engineer.
My emergency back-up chiller is a Porkka walk-in fridge. Approx 6ftx4ft. It was dismantled and stacked up outdoors for seven years, totally exposed to the elements.
When I eventually reassembled it and plugged it in it worked straight off, no problems.
I reckon that's a pretty good advert for Porkka.

That's a done deal then when I build mine

Well i have seen it all. An advertised near £3000 bespoke Mini deer larder. LANDIG (9000). It arrived Thursday and what a piece of crap. This is not ready to take deer its just a big plastic fridge there is nothing deer about it accept the price. The backs open cant move it to clean under it and no deer bars unless you pay a further £200 plus. Sorry but no matter the discount this is just a piece of plastic does not do any more than your fridge from Curry,s or Argos. PS No bloody light don't they realise that deer stalkers managers arrive home in the dark. Stick with your coca cola type fridges they beat this bit of kit hands down. Shame on them for selling there government such a pour laid out product.
Surely you did some research into the unit before shelling out for it? If I was looking for a small chiller then I’d be looking at the catering/commercial kitchen outfitters to see what’s out there. Assuming you got 50% off, £1.5k will buy you something a lot more suitable as others have provided links for.

Have had a landig LU9000 for around four/five years now. I've had no issue with cleaning and sanitising in or around the fridge. It has drain bungs and is raised off the ground to clean underneath. I'm not a commercial shooter but would take ~50-60 deer a year off the farm.
I staggered the length of some hooks and can hang four sika prickets without touching. It's cheap to run and has been faultless for me.
Since when did it cost £3000? I got it delivered from Germany directly along with their professional mincer and a few other accessories for €2100.
It's unfortunate when something doesn't live up to your expectations, but did you not view one or do some research on the product before you made the purchase?
Is it suitable for large numbers of deer in a commercial environment? Probably not.
Is it suitable for the vast majority of stalkers? In my opinion, absolutely.

I’ve got the 10000 cracking piece of kit. Cheap to run easy to clean. Down to temp in no time. Might get another one. The 9000 is too small for my liking but still better than a coke fridge. Just put a fallow buck and fawn in loads of room. It’s my back up/cooling fridge to the 3mx2m chiller and well worth the money

I think David Barker is Well named.
He’s must be the only individual that I have ever heard of having a issue with the Landig chillers seriously 😜
I have been had the LU 9000 ten years and it’s never missed a beat .
There that good I have recently got the LU 9000 latest.
And for Tarrant Refrigeration I would like to say first class .
Mr Barker is Barking Mad and so say all that have Landig chiller 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿👍

looked at a Landig and done my research, best I could get it for was 3k delivered to Ireland. I'm not shooting commercial.

In the end I went for a Maxima, it has bigger internal dimensions than the lu9000 but pretty similar in spec, comes in Black and the finish quality is excellent. Needed to make some internal hanging bars but I got it delivered for a little over 1k. will fit 4 sika easy. Think it is the happy medium to spend as a recreational hunter but each to their own. Is the Maxima perfect, no there are things I would like it to have but for the money I don't think I could have gotten any better. time will tell how it performs long term but so far, very impressed.

As another satisfied LU9000 you summed this up exactly right - certainly not a commercial shoot fridge but a serious bit of kit for anyone who frequently stalks. As for the £3k price tag that’s the joy of inflated pricing ‘free money’ grants🙄
£2.2k delivered with extra rail inc vat when I bought a few years back.
Shame on you DB for not doing your research first

SAOS didn’t push any brand, it was up to the applicant to specify what chiller and other items they wanted to apply for.
That's not true at all. When asked for there advice for a small chiller they said go for the Landig w3e are w3orking with a company and can also get you 5% off.

That’s not pushing it, you asked for a recommendation and they suggested an option on which they had a discount agreement with a supplier.

They certainly didn’t push/recommend the chiller I and others applied for.

The point is they pushed this unit and after asking them they did not know it was not fit to take deer from the out set and was just a large plastic fridge. I am glad you got what you want and hope you keep filling it. But your joining this post falls flat as you did not even apply for the same unit. SAOS have been approached to see if they can address this so that no other Rec stalker trying to up his game does not get caught out.

I perhaps applied for the correct unit having done weeks of research along with a stalking friend who came to the same conclusion.

Interesting thread David, sorry to hear you’re not happy with yours. For anyone still looking at the LU9000, I have a brand new one still in the box with the castors kit (in Edinburgh). The castors solve the cleaning-underneath issue completely (just wheel it out).
