I met a friend yesterday for a bit of new baitboat practice pre our annual French fishing trip, anyway we got talking guns he applied and got granted a FAC for a section 1 Air rifle and then went on to get his section 2 auto 3 shot converted to a 5 shot. Since a visit to his local gunshop and a phone call to our local FEO it seems that auto shotguns holding more than 3 shots are going to be banned for any live game shooting and FAC section 1 shotguns will be granted for Practical shotgun. Is this true ??

Plenty of people with FACs own S1 shotguns for pest control rather than taking out a separate SGC. It's the sensible move if all you do is pigeons, crows, rabbits. PSG is typically the only good reason recognised for slug cartridges, however.

Gotta say mine and the wife’s Benellis have never eaten any hamsters but they eat their way through a slab of shells no probs
We have them for practical shotgun and vermin if the cops don’t like them it’s more the Turkish box fed things from my experience

U mention live Game shooting.
I dunno if a change or just badly worded?

Have S1 shotguns not always been banned from shooting game.

So still fine for pigeons, crows etc as not game.
Unless they are changing that.

I see Hymn has just beat me to it.

Not quite the case, HD of larger animals is a well accepted good reason although I’m not sure how long that’ll continue once the lead ban kicks in?

Not quite true with slugs
I have had slugs for deer control and target practice

West Mercia is a certainty a no go applied on last variation I had a zoom phone call with a loverly woman called Ashley who’s is our new feo who said I can put your request and argument forward to the chief but she said I can certainly guarantee you won’t get it so I dropped it I did state my disagreement with the only people allowed s1 shotgun are practical shooter I believe they shouldn’t divide us be it hunting or targets was also told that they are taking the outlook of if it gets into the wrong hands again I disagree because whether you shoot target or pest they all get locked in the same cabinets am also hearing of people at renewals and variation being told they can no longer have a section 1 shotgun

I’ve heard the same from a mate in the trade that are going to just not give them at renewal if they can get away with it

As with any sec1 firearm it all comes down to the reason given when seeking a grant.
Can you think of a definite situation that a multi shot shotgun would be needed where you can legally use it?

Wouldn't it be nice to be a fly on the wall when firearms legislation is being discussed, wherever it gets discussed, by those with the clout to decide what is next to be cut...
The Blob, shepherding us through life lest we enjoy ourselves.

You should have pushed it then
Areas making up non rules to suit themselves is going to affect us all and needs push back at every opportunity.

I was fox shooting the other day, with about 20 guys with sec1 shotguns.
