Section 1 shotguns banned soon ??

DIsagree with the .22lr fox bit especially when shooting at distance .243 or
.223 for me all day . .22l good for short distances. 100 m plus nope

I completely agree. Although possible to shoot foxes with a .22lr I would hate to be limited to just using a rimfire for shooting foxes as there are better tools for the job. A bit like comparing an fac shotgun to a 2 or 3 shot?! Why should you be limited to using a section 2 shotgun in situations where a section 1 is a better tool?

I should have mentioned 5 shots, put kept previous post to one line. Yes five shots I can see can be useful

But I have never ever encountered a situation where I needed or anyone else would need a magazine of 8 or 10 capacity. Nothing likes getting shot at, most are well gone after a two or three shots, even a mob of 200 daft feral pigeons swirling around a stock shed will be out of range after three, four or five shots.

Very Large mag capacity is not needed for anything. It’s usually a ****ing contest between young ‘professionals’ as to whose gun has the bigger mag capacity. Naivety must keep Benelli in business
A 5 shot is section 1.

More section 1 semis come out of the factory as 8 shots than 5 shots.

As above when leaping rabbits, on the move in a vehicle, high capacity is a really useful tool as you have more shots without reloading.

It tends to be the same old story in the shooting world. Those without a use for a particular firearm never stick up for those who do have a use for it when the government wants to take it away. Why people can’t accept that although they don’t have a use for something someone else might is beyond me.

It did used to be a force policy in Leicestershire that if you wanted a rifle to control foxes that, in the 1970s and 1980s, a .22LR was all you'd get.

That's because most, unwittingly, are comrades in the United Socialistic Soviet States of not so Great Britain.

You know great doesn’t mean superb, it means “outer”. Like Greater London or Greater Manchester?

It was originally Outer North West France. or Greater Brittany. 🤣
Not quite, it was originally called Britain because it shared the Celtic people of Brittany, so the romans lumped us all together as the Pretani “the painted ones” and it became Britannia.

Great was added later to distinguish it from Little Britain, which was Brittany, and was formalised in 1707 with the act of union of the English and Scottish Parlaiments, nothing to do with Brittany at that point.

West Mercia is a certainty a no go applied on last variation I had a zoom phone call with a loverly woman called Ashley who’s is our new feo who said I can put your request and argument forward to the chief but she said I can certainly guarantee you won’t get it so I dropped it I did state my disagreement with the only people allowed s1 shotgun are practical shooter I believe they shouldn’t divide us be it hunting or targets was also told that they are taking the outlook of if it gets into the wrong hands again I disagree because whether you shoot target or pest they all get locked in the same cabinets am also hearing of people at renewals and variation being told they can no longer have a section 1 shotgun
West Mercia removed my authority to use my S1 shotgun for vermin control when I renewed my certificate too. I have challenged ti and after a delay got an interesting response which is being examined by my lawyer.

1969 I had 22 Hornet and 22-250 on my cert. for vermin for several months and 2 plain cloths guys turned up at my place of work unannounced one day and said someone had studied a map of the farm I shot over and decided it wasn’t safe for centre fire rifles but okay for my 22rf.
Was told to sell the two cf guns which I did.
Didn’t have enough knowledge in those days to take it to higher authority.
Ken.

I have a section 1 underlever 12g, conditioned for vermin/bird control and practical. Most used gun in the tool box, once you have the reloading speed! Doesn't jam and is great for roost/decoy shooting when you need to get multiple shots in that short window. Also good fun at practical, doesn't look like my mates anti tank weapon (typhoon f12) and very underestimated (but always gets lots of attention?!)

If they took away the ability to use them on the farms, id defiantly buy the same gun on section 2. (after a long drawn out kick off)

What gun is it, always looking for an interesting shotty 👍🏻

Apparently after numerous challenges, the force are allowing Sec 1 shotgun ownership again. Whether those affected can get compensation is yet to be seen but hopefully a lesson learnt for that particular force.
