I've got one and I like it a lot. It's probably not quite as quiet as my Widcat Evolutions, but I can forgive it, as it's half the weight and allows the rifle to handle in a much nicer way. One thing to note is that they do get hot very quickly if you shoot a lot in quick succession.

I have no idea of costs, but I think a little context, so the Wildcat Evo is 260mm long, vs 154mm for the F&D 196.

The 196 is a few mm bigger in diameter, at its widest point.

So if the 196 is similar in noise level to the Evo, it's doing pretty well, and may balance the rifle better ?

Had 2 if you do not clean them after EVERY outing then forget trying to open them, binned them and bought 2 ase ultra sl5i

I have DPT's, and agree, splitting them can be nigh on impossible, if they aren't split regularly, and the o rings greased.

I also have an SL5, & SL7, and HATE the bl00dy things, they weigh a ton !

Agree. Have an Ase CQB, weighs as much as a brick, only good for multiple shots in quick succession / range work. Completely unbalances a light rifle. I don't really rate the noise reduction that highly compared to the likes of the wildcats and dpt mods.

I have had one for 5 or so years. Really light and totally transformed the balance of my rifle after I swapped from an ASE5i.
I have another ASE5i that I bought as part of a used rifle package but never use it, just swap the F&D back and forth.
You do need to disassemble and give it a spray of WD40 and a quick wipe after use or it will become stuck. Takes seconds and good practice in any case imho.

Whats the point of splitting?

Mine cane from the factory as a sealed unit.

Mine was the stubby forward mounted fryer and I loved it. Now on a diffrent rofle with an ase utra sl5i - actually prefer it with a little weight to keep the muzzle flip down

I have a 196, very quiet and light. It’s probably had close to 1000 rounds throughout and still going well. I was shooting with a mate this morning who had a DPT on his rifle. We both remarked how much louder his rifle with the DPT was - very noticeable difference in suppression.

Yeah, those 300 Blackout can be a BIATCH ;)

I bought an SL7 for my 300 NM, now THAT is a BIATCH, even with the SL7, and I'll shoot a 9.3 x 62 all day long !

Muzzle brakes are your FRIEND 😁
Wouldn't know.

Got a 12 port muzzle break on my 300 win mag that may aswell be marketed as a loudner.

See my post here:

And a bit of an explanation at post #51 further down the page.

The UTS231 was a replacement for a failed FW196 that I used to use on 2 of my .308 which suffered baffle cutting despite cleaning. Whilst I home load, I do so to achieve 100% burn in barrel so F&D gave me a discount on the UTS231 - that's fully Ti whereas on the FW's only the blast cone is Ti, the rest Al. As you can see, my FW149 which predates the failed 196 by some margin is still going strong and the UTS131 is used on my .270! Mods are a compromise - I want mine on my stalking rifles to be light, compact, not add to the length and to maintain the rifle's balance. The F&D mods do that in spades for me.

If you search the forum you will find so less than flattering posts about other's experiences with F&D - I don't share them and am very happy with the 3 that I currently have but I do encourage you to do a full search.

I shot a target using my 30-06 and used the F&D then swopped for the DPT and the local farm workers said exactly opposite to your post, the Dpt had three modules.

I have a uts model, very happy with it, nice n light and no cleaning required (not that i have ever cleaned a mod anyway). Suppression is very good as well, its on my 6.5 and its quieter than my dpt ( that has extra baffles) thats on my 243.
Next mod will be another uts model.

Noise attenuation on the Jet-Zs is good, what mod size and what are you putting through it.

Was out last night with the .223 CQB on the .25, the minimal clearance around the bullet means it’s silly quiet.

That's exactly what I have the CQB
