The .280 is still carrying as much as many deer calibres at the muzzle though, more than enough for anything in the UK. All that extra energy from the PRC is going into the backstop.
 
I guess this all very much depends on the intended usage. My 7mm PRC is a double duty rifle with a chassis for range work and a PSE Evolution for hunting which will mostly be in Africa. I will be glad of all of the energy when shooting larger plains game at longer distances than would be convention in the UK. I will not need or desire that energy for deer stalking at home but do intend to use it for wild boar at home and possibly tricky fallow in big open fields.
