Sika deer bullet in 6ppc

I'm guessing that it depends on your barrel twist. Barnes 80gr TTSX / Yewtree 80.5gr would be my choice if you have a 1:10 or faster twist, or even the new Yewtree 53gr Super X would work in a slower twist.

Loads of other bullets that will work too.

I use the slightly slower 6x45 and it's fantastic for deer. I've used the 62gr GS Custom copper bullets which are peerless, and now using 62gr Barnes Varmint Grenade which do the job very well too.

Not going to provide loads even though mine is also a Sako 75 for obvioue reasons, but interested to see what 5-shot group size you're achieving with your current pet load.

I've yet to shoot any bullet under 70g.

as a side note , we were struggling to get bullets to stabilize and all the data said they should but i decided to actually measure the twist rate on the barrel and it was 1-13.75 in reality , so if you get odd results physically check your twist

in my experience you'd need a long barrel to achieve that velocity with a 6ppc
I achieve that with a 20.5" 1:8 barrel in my 6x45. (These drive band bullets are an exception re velocities achieved). In comparison I get just over 3000fps with the 62gr jacketed Barnes VG.

6PPC will exceed that with its bigger case capacity.

oh , i'll bow to your superior knowledge

the 6ppc is around 28-30 grs of water the 6x45 is around 29grs of water

amazing such small differences can make such a big difference

You want something fast as possible and I am struggling to see how you get 3200fps with even a 75gr in a 24"

And if you are dropping to 62gr even 3350fps isnt deer legal in England let alone Scotland
