Good Friday = no meat?

Just wondering how many on here observe this tradition?

Whilst I grew up in catholic household, my dad wasn't strict about much of it, but we never had meat good Friday. Wasn't until I got older realised not everyone did it!

Anyone else?

We don't really although I did jokingly suggest it to my family yesterday as we've got fish pie to eat. Something to do with not causing death to remember the day Jesus was crucified. We're more of the Protestant side of things.

It's also the root of why a lot of people have fish and chips on a Friday - it wasn't just Good Friday that it was commemorated but every Friday, just as meeting every Sunday is celebrating the resurrection.

Brought up catholic , an alter boy until I realised a lad in a frock wasn't that handy for turning the girls heads , meatless every Thursday ( I think) at school , fish boiled in milk , mash and peas still makes me whince .
I still have faith , not sure in what really , have eaten meat today but as I'm a catholic I'm going straight to heaven , well according to Father Dougal I am anyway. As I get older I have more respect , maybe grudgingly, for people with faith . Not necessarily in established religion but faith in something.

Had never heard of the tradition until today, obviously i not from a very religious background.

Ham salad wrap for lunch, and by the look of it - venison spaghetti bolognaise later.
