Potato cannon

2’’ bore limit on cannons afaik ?

So you can actually own up to a 2’’ bore actual cannon on an Sgc
Punt gun dimensions.
I know 8g muzzleloaders are not only awesome but quite versatile.
Anything that'll shoot 2oz or more is going to call a cease fire from anything on the recieving end.

What ignition system are people using ?

The last one a friend made used a piezo igniter taken from a redundant gas fire if l remember correctly, it could launch spuds way over the top of the farmhouse in the village, great fun for us maybe not for the farmer. I think the propellant was WD40 ?
Our plan was exactly that: piezo ingniter. Though a stand along one, rather than one cannibalised from a stove.

When does the statute of limitations kick in for potato cannon misdemeanors?

Who cares?

I was camping at Le Mans with a bunch of chaps probably twelve years ago. Some of the campsites got quite rowdy, inspiring one of our party to bring means of defending our pitch.
Most of the cannons I had seen used 2 inch barrels, this was larger bore, more of a shorter range mortar launcher . We were there early in the week and fortunately didn't have any immediate neighbours.

The supply of large vegetable ordnance inevitably ran out, requiring a rapid collection of the grass toppings to form "patching/wads" for the smaller spuds.

As the campsite became busier and due to a lack of ammo, we could no longer maintain the exclusion zone. Our immediate camp borders became very international, prompting one of our party to attach a Union Jack flag to a beer can as a parachute, each time upon launch, the entire party stood to attention and saluted for the duration of flight.

Apparently, there was some kind of race on that weekend too....

This looks perfect - thank you!

We did some small scale tests with what we could find in the house this afternoon.

So far everyone still has eyebrows and all windows are intact.

Clicky ligheter mech for igniton.
If your invested you can do all sorts with scaffold tubes. We made some fairly terrifying stuff as kids from 13-15years.
I think.you could order potassium nitrate online at the time 🤣

KN03.com! My partner in crime did indeed get ‘the knock’ from the ladies and gentlemen in all black asking what he’d done with the past three orders worth.
We moved from (45mm?) PVC aerosol combustion based, to 15mm copper hand pumped compressed air mechanically released, to 30mm PVC with lathed and rifled hardwood slugs and 300psi compressed air under electronic release. When we punched 4 clean holes in 18mm marine ply at 30 meters and the neighbour threatened to report us for disturbing the peace, the next obvious choice was to take our proud target to our physics teacher to show off our mastery of mechanics and ballistics. The headmaster’s subsequent phone call home put an end to (almost) all of it. Oh, and 9/11 happened and ruined that sort of teenage fun forever.
Then I became and engineer and the 07 defence spending review narrowly stole away an MOD job offer. And buddy end up working at AI. Who’d have thought 🤷‍♂ Nowadays we’d probably have been given records and all that talent squandered.

Re spud guns: I recommend having the weakest link in your design not facing any part of you. I got a hot jet of gas to the hand on a couple of times when the glue gun sealing job around the clicky lighter failed, and we had a really serious back blast incident when the back of the combustion chamber failed (it’s what ended the 45mm gen 1). If at all possible, opt for remote activation, it’s not worth the risk. If not, safety goggles and welding gloves at the least. Sorry to be boring (and a hypocrite)

Has anyone contemplated whether such a device might fit the definition of a firearm or shotgun under the 1968 Firearms Act? I ask out of curiosity.
