3d printed DIY quad sticks

You should be able to use 14mm aluminium tube for the carbon fibre quad stick kits.

Someone has also used these 16mm tubes with a standard kit:

Thats great
Whats the lead time on a standard kit?
I assume you will pm me payment details.

My wooden quad sticks are great but they can be noisy and don't allow for any lateral adjustment of rifle to track deer that move.

I've had 4 green b&q garden canes lying around for years since I decided that I needed quad sticks and then promptly bought the wooden ones.

I've mulled over the design for a few weeks in the odd spare moments I've found, ordered some nice fasteners, and finally got the bottom hinge modelled this morning. I then started the 3d printer to do the top cradles and bottom hinge in rubber and returned this afternoon to the completed parts.

I assembled everything, cut the canes to length and glued the rod ends into the canes.

I'm looking forward to testing them out. I'll then do a few tweaks to the design. I can then maybe share the 3d models with anyone that wants to 3d print their own, or sell kits for a modest price.

See the new Pauper-Flex below 😂

Thank you Phil, that's kind of you. Could you just print everything for me? 😂

I'm getting good results with PETG-CF.

TPU 95 gives me a few headaches - sometimes warping and nozzle blockages which can be frustrating.

Hello, I have never seen a 3 D printer working until recently while at my Sons Wedding in Bristol, While waiting i came across a chap on a market stall with a 3 D printer making kiddies stuff, It was fascinating to watch, It was only a small printer but i can imagine people using bigger and better ones

Hello, just a thought, have you ever considered people drilling the metal sticks and putting a small stainless self-tapping screw in to hold things together so that if the owner falls, drops something heavy on the sticks so they bend it is a relatively simple job to change the bent bits out?

Sorry to be a nuisance if you have been there and it just won't work.

David.

Hi David, I've considered that and that's how I secure my carbon fibre sticks as I don't want the carbon stick scrapped if a rod end breaks. I use a 4mmx12mm stainless self tapping screw.

It's a bit more hassle to do than gluing IMO for the garden canes which are really cheap to replace. I'm happy to supply new rod ends should one break a stick with glued ends though.

Would applying heat with a heat gun not allow you to remove the printed piece and replace the stick? It’s not something that I’ve ever done but that would be my first choice.

I’ve got two sets of sticks with the kits fitted so I break one set. I have a spare set there and failing that I should break the other set. I should just order a new kit. I’m not that worried over the price, what’s £50 compared to the price of a new set of Viper flex?

Irrelevant

Tried out my new sticks with these 3d printed rod ends for the first time yesterday. Massive improvement over the canes held together with o-rings that I have been using for the last few years. Way more stable.

Thanks Rory

Many thanks Rory for supplying the printing file for the 5th leg. Completed today and I think it will improve my hold noticeably. Cheers, Bill

Big shout out to Rory / Takbok for great service.

My ham fisted son snapped my pauper flex sticks by opening them violently in the wrong direction. For the record I don’t think a normal person could do this if they tried!

Rory sent me new ends to fix them, FOC and received within 3 days of asking (I asked on Christmas Day!)
Top bloke and top service, thank you Rory.

I have been using home made sticks with o-rings for the last few years and I'm interested in updating to one of your sets with a flat yoke to allow some movement. Is the fifth leg that much better or does it just allow the legs to stand on their own? How much are the two options?

Hi, 5th leg is good for flat fields or if you have loads of time for 'bench rest' stability. I don't personally use one. I'll send you the prices. I'll have limited stock at the end of the month again.
