Pollution - so describe that exactly and why lead is not a polluting substance?
Oh for goodness sake! Really?
I hope you, and everyone else, watches the Channel 4 film Dirty Business. Lead poisoning pales into insignificance in respect of the salmon decline. You are the only person I've ever seen linking salmon decline with lead.
Basically, there are too many of us on the planet, pollution is a result of that. We need a pandemic!

I was of the impression that the numbers crashed after most of the mining stopped and that numbers of these and sea trout were healthy even in some particular polluted mining country rivers.

If we want to put venison into the wide public food chain lead should not be anywhere near the carcass.

Lead has no known to science beneficial effects on the metabolism of any animal, bird or plant. There is no safe level of exposure.

The science has demonstrated that lead fragments down to nano particle level are widely spread throughout a carcass shot with a lead bullet.

And there is plenty of science clearly showing the link between even very low levels - nano gram level concentrations - of lead and many usually fatal conditions.

This science is now well understood by the powers that be, and by the shooting organisations.

There are plenty of non toxic bullets that work humanely and well. Tens of thousands of deer are being shot with such bullets. The only downside is an extra £1 to £2 in the cost of ammunition to shoot each deer. Up here in Scotland many of game dealers now will not take any lead shot deer. Contractors are being paid over £100 per deer. So the extra cost for each deer shot is pretty immaterial.
Horse manure.

You, and your intransigent fellow travellers are a greater threat to shooting than any other group.
Have a nice day.
I did have to chuckle, I personally am of the opinion that you should let people do what they want to do instead of enforcing your beliefs upon others.

@Hyem SR20 that goes for you too

That gets you know where, I realise that a long time ago when I was voicing my opinions of copper projectiles.

Classic ‘straw man’ argument
So rather than just name calling why can’t the “lead causes no harm” provide clear scientific evidence that lead is actually beneficial to humans and other organisms that contradicts all the evidence that supports that lead in any quantity is harmful.

You have had many years to do so, indeed many years the previous Conservative Government launched the consultation to remove lead all ammunition used. Over 11,000 shooters provided response to the consultation but clearly were unable to provide evidence that swayed the opinion of the powers that be.

There is a very big difference between sewage pollution and heavy metal pollution. Sewage is hugely damaging in the short term as the biological processes of digesting and breaking down the sewage sucks out oxygen from the water. Given time, and preventing sewage inflows nature will sort out the problem. Besides, much of the water that is provided to the tap in cities such as London is derived from treated sewage.

Heavy metals on the other hand just remain in the system and are passed from one organism to another and ultimately get concentrated in top predators.

If that’s the case why are birds of prey numbers at their highest in years despite the use of lead shot ?

Mostly as a result of naturally occurring deposits...oh Dear God. I cannot be bothered.

Almost certainly as a result of conservation efforts, gamekeepers no longer shooting them, a much greater extent of natural habitat and far more prey and food provided as a consequence of game shooting ( all the released poults that get taken by BOP) and remains of deer and other vermin left in the countryside.
