Hilux early chassis fail: rust perforation after 7 years and just 44k miles of road use in U.K.

I was told by an employee that the Toyota plant at Burnaston are completing 2 chassis changes a week. Unable to validate yet. But if that is the case, how come some owners are saying its 6 months plus ?

Probably because there is such a back log, dealers seem to be telling owners to hang on and await their turn.

I understand that, but according to posts on this and other forums trucks are away for months.. I will do some digging..
I am apparently on the list, but according to previous inspection from.a friend mechanic the chassis seems to be in good condition, maybe because it was treated very early on. ???

In addition I've been told by my dealer that there is a delay in precautionary wax oiling of less corroded chassis because of a lack of body shops, spray shops that are 'accredited' by Toyota UK to do the work. Would welcome you running that by your man for accuracy please.

Just picked my fairly new Hilux up from the dealers after warranty work and Chasis inspection.
I have been told the Chasis has passed the inspection but they have recommended having it waxed at Toyotas expenses due to future corrosion issues, I will get a courtesy car for the 3 week duration it takes to carry out the work and I have been placed on a waiting list.
Whilst it is great they are carrying out this work free it doesn't really fill you with confidence that this is needed on a car less than 3yr old

It's taking 3 weeks ??

Friend has just got his back, not sure how long it took but they not only replaced the chassis but also the lower suspension arms & put on new skid plates & fuel tank protection plate despite them all being aftermarket bits. He's quite chuffed, especially as it came back with more diesel in it than it left with👍

I passed the Toyota dealer in Enniskillen over the weekend and saw dozens of tub less Hilux parked up in the yard. Must be a serious backlog still.

2 chassis changes a week, means in 6 months they'll have done roughly 50.

I dare say that there are more than 50 vehicles in the queue to get changed...

there is a place in Poland supplying crossmembers, 1/2 chassis’s and the like for various vehicles. Hilux being one of them.

Excellent news.

I have a 2019 model. I contacted the main dealer who I bought it from, a year old (not the other way around...) and they said 'if you bring it in we will assess whether it needs treating and, if so treat it at our own expense, but only if you haven't had it treated.' I had it treated at my own expense last year, FFS!

I would still take it in and try it you have nothing to lose, The way It looks is that the main dealers are making money out of Toyota to put things right for reputation

Out of interest how long ago was your HiLux checked Dazb?
Mine went in about a month ago & was vaguely told I’d hear direct from Toyota - could be up to 4 months……..

Had mine done last October. Waxed treated as they say that’s all it needed .
Waited about 2 months for it to go in .
They gave me a loan car as they hadn’t another hilux available, which wasn’t a problem. As we used my mates hilux for shooting related .
Came back after 6 weeks as they cocked up and forgot it was on the forecourt 🤷‍♀️ .
When it came back it was immaculate underneath and in the engine bay . They cleaned the inside etc .
Well happy it’s all done as the year before I was thinking about having it done privately at a cost of £1800 .
No cost to me and didn’t ask for any other work done either.
