Price of ammo now 🫣

Well, I'm on a very modest pension and never earned big money when I was working. There were many times when I had young children and a mortgage that I barely had a pound left at the end of the month. I stalked all through those years and never worried about the cost of ammo or making money from my stalking.
Then again, I never had fancy holidays, tatoos, 4x4 pickup trucks or fancy cars, and very basic stalking gear compared to what many expect today.
In my dotage, I now have two 4x4s and enough ammo to start a small war.
So to all those whiners and grislers complaining about the cost of ammo, stalking, Boo hoo, my heart bleeds for you not.

Can't really complain about the price of ammunition , even though i'm paying almost a hundred quid for a box of 20, as all my expenses (including fuel, high seats etc) ar paid for by the landowner.
Price could be the least of our problems.
Supply concerns me far more. Same with diesel, those airlines cutting back on their schedule aren’t doing it because they have suddenly become converts to the Green transition.
Israel and Trump have really screwed things up this time.

you can still get lead ammunition though .........
At the moment you can, but just about every single component is oil industry dependent, and at the rate that Russia, Ukraine, Israel, Iran and the USA are targeting refineries and shipping lanes, I would be very surprised if the supply chains of all sorts of “ stuff “ is affected. Propellant production will be affected, cases, primers, projectiles….
Then there’s all the stuff we no longer produce at home because it was cheaper to produce in Asia or somewhere else, our own fuel, cars, tyres, copper, steel, engines, cloth.
We be totally fukt.

Easy to blame those nations causing issues now but our vulnerability is our own fault, that of our politicians and businesses which have outsourced and us for being ok with it. And if we hadn't outsourced, China would be weaker too as it wouldn't have benefitted from our funds, which would likely have meant things like Venezuela and Iran may not have been undertaken at all.

I’m not arguing, I’m stocking up.
Hindsight is always perfect.

I'm buying 200 rounds at the time, for each deer calibers, and order well in advance, to see me through.
As i'm not a paper puncher , they last me quite a while.

If you want to punch paper cheaply get a 22lr, and shoot them out at long distances off all sorts of shooting positions. Don’t a heavy weight target, or an Ar15 clone. Get a good bolt action that mimics a stalking rifle. Or have some fun with a lever action.

They teach you huge amounts about shooting, trigger control, shooting at different ranges and managing wind.

And they really show up errors in technique.

Do you practice and learning with a 22. Then a couple of shots with centrefire just to confirm your learnings.

And best of all 50 shots costs about £10.

I had a bad injury on the thumb of my trigger hand. I have had now a number of poor shots on deer. 22 match on the range and can see exactly what is happening. Brain is sending the shoot command. Hand shouting back - its going to fecking hurt, and trigger pull is all over the place.

22 is going ti be answer to learning how to shoot again.

.22 hornet is a cheap cartridge to reload for, if you have the time, a bottle of lil gun, small rifle primers or some even use small pistol primer and bullets of your choice, for the £275 you could be up and running.

If no plan to reload, then sell on the cases to get some money back that way.
