6.5 creedmoor refusal for fox.

There's a table at the end of section 12 of the .GOV guide that gives you a guide.

https://www.gov.uk/government/publi...n#chapter-12-good-reason-to-possess-a-firearm

Fox

12.25 Although not set out in legislation, common rifle cartridges considered suitable for the shooting of foxes range from .17 Remington, and .22 Hornet to .22 -250 and .220 Swift, though there is a wide range of suitable similar calibres commercially available. In windy areas, where heavier bullets aid accurate shooting, or if applicants wish to use one rifle for shooting both deer and foxes, they may choose a rifle in 6mm (.243/.244) or 6.5mm (.264) calibre.

Seems you can have 1 rifle to do both under the official guidance, but cannot have it JUST for fox.

I think after your initial knock back for the 6.5mm, any further trying to justify it will go against you. Maybe go .223 for the fox and add the 6.5 at a later date as a deer rifle.

On paper I have a 223 for fox. And 243 for deer.
I wanted another rifle for fox with dedicated night vision scope. So asked for a CM. And as I’m selling my 243 I’d make more use of it rather than fox. I was going to get a 308 for target work but sort of changed my mind on a CM. I will just wait till the 243 goes then out a variation in for it in deer.

Just been knocked back for a variation for a CM for fox. As not suitable. I know there are better choices but… is this something I should accept or challenge.
Thanks.

Lee.
Lee,

If you applied for a 6.5 Creedmoor just to shoot fox then you are outside the home office guidance and that is the reason your request has been refused. Any challenge is likely to fail. It is difficult to comment further as you do not state in your post if you also do deer stalking, target shooting, or any information about the location and type of land that you are looking to shoot over etc. You have not stated in your post if you already have alternative rifles such as a .223 for fox shooting, all of these factors could play a part in the police decision.

As others have commented you could have applied for a 6.5mm Creedmoor if it was to be used for both deer & fox. If this does not apply to you then you will have to look at some form of centerfire .22 that are approved in the home office guidance.

Good luck in finding a solution and moving forward.

Just saw your additional posts, looks like you have a plan.

Bullets, rounds, ammunition, cartridges. Tomato/Tomato

By the time the 'bullet' is going down range, it has cost you £3 for that shot. OP is getting perhaps his 1st centrefire I doubt he will be reloading just yet.
He's got more reloading gear than Henry Kranks..
He's also got a .243 in the classifieds which he might as well keep for foxing.
.223 as well... he likes a rodeo 🤠
