Terrorist had them years ago and they worked well.
So are we catching up now.

We should have copied there ideas and put them in a land rovers and stuck to working mans motor

That’s one offering. There’s about 10 being trialled (Toyota, Ford, new defender, Chevrolet Silverado, G-Wagon, to name a few) which ends in the summer (July IIRC) this will then get announced with the first delivery booked for 2030

By and large Tojos are generally long lived and reliable but every now and then they produce a model which has some what troublesome reliability issues. It's a real shame about Land Rover though. They have a world wide, instantly recognised name, have some of the best designed vehicles but throw it all away with poor quality control in the assembly factory...if only they'd adopted/enforced Japanese quality control standards on all the bits that go to make a Land Rover they would set records for popularity, leading sales numbers which would result in dream land profits.

How can they contemplate a defender? £2500+ for ahead light!
Ford wet belt great idea.
No clue on the other but cant be worse than those 2

JLR has just issued the biggest recall in its history, affecting over 170,000 vehicles:

Not exactly the best timing if they are pitching the new Defender!

About right for landrover

The beauty of the old LR were that the MOD in their wisdom stuck with essentially what was the old 300Tdi engine - it was mechanical so could be fixed with spanners, screwdrivers & hammers, none of the modern electrickery nonsense that’ll doubtless leave whichever unit they decide to procure stranded on a battlefield when a brake light bulb has blown & thrown the vehicle into limp mode because it shares canbus with something else… wonder what the dealer response time is for warranty breakdowns ‘on the road’?

IIRC correctly the Wolf was also able to run on avtur so making fuelling a lot easier in theatre?

Would be interesting to see more info on the Babtie GLVs as well as the competing vehicles if anyone has any?

i am one of land rovers biggest critics , shocking reliability - truly shocking ! and the only one thats even remotely reliable i.e. the old defenders are literally torture for totally normal 6'4'' people like me to drive !

but , they are lovely cars ! well designed and capable when they work !

but , over three decades of shocking reliability with absolutely dreadful support from JLR is simply not good enough

Wasn’t the Wolf engine non turbo to make it even simpler? And I think NATO went diesel route so all vehicles run on the same fuel and can use jet fuel if required - there is not a lot of difference between diesel, kerosene, paraffin and jet fuel. Mostly down to the additives for the different uses and to improve performance.

Toyotas last as they are very heavily built, and pre V8s, had a 6cyl 4 litre engine producing about 100 hp if you are lucky - engine is very under stressed. This is fine as the suspension is so tough that it is too uncomfortable to drive very fast.

The coil sprung 110’s and Defenders are much lighter vehicles and much much more comfortable of dirt roads, so they can be driven a lot faster which adds to wear and tear as well as accidents.

Snapped cranks/spun bearings aside - remembering the V6 diesel engine isn’t actually a landrover unit & has the same issues in other vehicles it’s fitted to, the D4 is about the pinnacle of LR development for the average Joe. IMO everything went down hill when that Lawrence Llewelyn Bowen wannabe Gerry McGovern came on the scene… totally lost sight of the ethos of LR & turned everything into a variation of the same thing 🤬

If only all motors could be simple to fix as they were in Ford Anglia/Cortina/old Landy times . Paying a lot more now for a lot less qualitiy

Who on earth wants slow uneconomical made of tin motors nowadays
Having to set the points before a long trip 😂
Vintage are hobby cars for a reason. I certainly wouldn’t want my granddaughter chauffeured about in something as unsafe as an Anglia.

Modern cars aren’t that difficult to fix either. Buy a diagnostic tool and everything is plug and play
