Caught Today

Seem to remember a previous thread on multiple decoys, not illegal in England but is in Scotland? Had RSPCA chap around couple of seasons ago,no repercussions. Please post link to relevant details, my job depends on not being nicked and losing my licences ☹️

Hi Mate
I dont need to post anything really if you think about it - having them fight like that is against any animal welfare laws - especially if they kill each othet
If you want a bit of interaction between them put a couple of larsens next to each other

Essentially by having 2 in one compartment you are causing undue stress / suffering - Stop doing it - you could face prosecution mate

Ok bud,was thinking there's specific legislation against it. To be honest, living in the middle of the estate,my Larsens get checked 3/4 times a day while on the rounds, more than most people I'd imagine. Very rare mine kill each other, left alone for a day or two like some people, they will then.
Having said that, I haven't caught one for over a week, had about the same as most years,on the 90 mark. My traps are going next door, favour for a neighbour. Let's me dog in on his land as payment, quid pro quo👍

Trying to snare a fox that’s been around my poultry for the past month. Spent a couple of nights waiting for him with the rifle (no fox seen but a bonus deer spotted at my boundary- never seen them so close)each time he came an hour after I went to bed. He tripped the snare one night but not caught.

My 4 year old loves checking the snares in the morning, my wife thinks I’m a bad father, I think quite the opposite!

I think its just the animal welfare legislation mate - not specifically you cant put 2 birds in one compartment
Without being daft - almost like we know hitting a dog with a frying pan would not be good - but there is no specific law that sys that if you follow

Funny how you have dried up the same time as us - Im on 73 or 74 and as you not caught all week !

Yes i bet mega exciting for the young un
Im 10 times older and still cant wait to see what i have caught or whats on the next feeder - or whats in the next pool hhahah
Brill - GOOD ON YOU !

looked at an old thread saying put 2 call birds in from separate pairs. Anyone doing that this year or swear by it? I have got a spare magpie i could double up if its worth a go.
In the same compartment?? They'll rip each other to bits. Ive had call bird injured through the wire from catching compartment. Not a smart idea.

Edit - just read the posts from Jim & @Rhodesianjess 👍

You can tell your good lady from me that she doesn't know how lucky she is. Then give her a big smacker on the lips 😘

Slightly off topic ....

What is it with wild birds.....

I love swallows and wrens but why do they have to be either stupid or a pain in the backside....I leave chiller door open and find the swallows trying to make a nest in there..same with one part of the shed where I keep the lawnmower....open the door for more then 5 mins and they are having a look :) I would happily let them nest where they want but need to lock stuff up unfortunately.

Wrens have nested in a box in the poly tunnel...so the boss opens the box..sees them and leaves well alone. It was so hot yesterday that all 3 chicks died 😭

Only so much you can do ...

We have swallows nesting in the block of garages that houses the boss's Aston Martins. He's had his builder in to put plywood over the joists to catch the mess that otherwise would fall on the cars.
People never see us shooting folk doing things like that, only castigate us for killing things.
The builders day rate much have cost more than just knocking the nest off the wall, like I know others do to force them to go elsewhere. Or 2 cartridges if he was that way inclined.

When I put a new roof on the porch we fitted timbers on the underside and left them really rough (old pallet boards) and hoped the bats would take up residence...which they duly did. They were squabbling a bit yesterday...but since the roof is slate and in full sun ...they would have been toasty.

I agree that the ignorant side of society thinks we "just kill stuff"...which is utter crap...the shooting community does more for conservation then most 👍
