Having had a few close in deer with my old .270( less than 70 yards) i was happy enough, and also , as i use my Steyr .243 for stalking 99% of the time it was a settled situation But i would ask folks in their personal experience what rifles they have been impressed with at the cheaper end of things like the savage /bergara brand names perhaps?Buying a new .270 rifle or one with a low low shot count is best i feel .

That .270 hasn’t done that many rounds I don’t think ?
 
Used rifles are a good value proposition
If you want a good value new rifle its hard to overlook the Benelli Granite Moss

I have a Franchi Horizon in .243, it was an affordable entrance to stalking for me, however, I wish I had saved up a bit more money and gone for something a bit higher quality like a tikka, Sako etc... we all live and learn!
 
There is nothing wrong with a quality second hand rifle, if you know where its come from. My Sako 75 in 30-06 was purchased second hand for £600. It is really accurate. Last month I was just outside Port Elizabeth, South Africa, having taken the best part of a day and a half to get there overnight on two aircraft. The PH on arrival wanted to see how we shot, and took us to his 100 yard range. I could see that my first shot was an inch high and an inch left. Not bad for all that transportation. Four clicks right and four clicks down. I then shot three toutching bullet holes in a straight line through the top of the bull. The look on the face of the PH I will cherish for years to come.
 
Mauser M18 was good albeit the stock was a bit flexible. Now own Benelli Granite Moss and for the price difference over the Mauser they are good value for money .

There are other brands I’m sure that will be recommended - best advice I can give is go to a shop or several with a wide variety of choice and see what fits you and what you like

If possible shoot to prove accuracy and ask to see the bore

I’ve been looking at these what are your thoughts on them I can’t see many reviews in them tbh I’ve been looking at the lupo in .223
 
I’ve only ever had one brand new rifle and it had to go back because it wouldn’t shoot. My first rifle was a really old tikka 595 in .243 and it shot tremendously well. My second was a .270 Sako 85 from McCloeds of Tain that was next to free. It was so shot out, the fire cracking in the barrel looked like snake skin and the throat was so eroded I couldn’t measure where the lands were. It shot deer just fine like that. Must’ve put 3-400 rounds through it before rebarrelling and it never shot worse than the DSC1 shooting test.

2nd hand CZ550 if you want cheap, accurate and not fussed on modifying. 2nd hand Howa if you want cheap, accurate and lots of aftermarket options. 2nd hand tikka gets you all the things a howa does but if you want to spend more money.
 
Lots of great suggestion BUT the best value second hand rifle in the UK is the Roesler Titan. I had the Titan3, still cant adequately explain why I sold it. IIRC I only got £350 for it. They just don't have the marketing budget so are unknown / unfashionable.
For : 3 lug, takedown, Walther barrel
Against: plastic trigger guard (upgrade available ) hated being fed through the port.
