Fitting s cabinet to timber frame house

Im looking at fitting a cabinet to a barn conversion but there are no solid walls only 6x2 studwork. Is there a way of doing this that will satisfy an FEO? I can access both sides of studwork as building isn't finished yet. Could i let a steel plate into the studs and bolt to that?

The plate is a great idea You could also do a risk management analysis and incorporate such measures as long steel bars attached to make it impossible to take the cabinet out of a door or weighted attachments to make the cabinet unlikely to be lifted. These additional measures can (if presented reasonably and confidently) mitigate other limitations. Consultation with your FEO is pretty vital.

Loft.
I had this problem and the loft was the best place and the police were very happy to have the cabinets bolted to the rafters. Afterall, you can really cut the cabinets out without them and you crashing to the ground, so much safer than a wall mounting.

What's the issue? You think they won't except that bolts are sufficient in to a 6x2?

Because you could put vertical timbers in line with the bolt holes on the cabinet. Decent bolts it would be harder to pull out than most stuff you get in masonry. Definitely those crappy expanding bolts you often get with cabinets.

You could increase the width of the timber in line with the bolt holes as well.

Its open plan roof so no loft option

I dont know if its an issue or not, hence the question. The building is still in the planning stages so not urgent but was thinking if I needed to incorporate something into the design now would be a better time than later. I have my renewal at the end of the year so will ask the FEO the question then too

^ This. I know there's been cases in our area where cabinets have been passed in static caravans in the past.

What ever you do take photos of each stage as proof

Most post 2000 new builds are timber frame. Police generally seem quite pragmatic about this: the aim is not absolute inviolable security but reasonable precaution that makes it more hassle than it’s worth.

Mine is simply screwed to the stud work inside a lockable cupboard. Police entirely happy.
