Doug (aka Shag) here, a deer hunter for well over half a century, and well over a hundred whitetails taken with rifle, bow, shotgun and muzzleloader. I live and hunt in Ontario, Canada.

I do not usually join new internet forums but was doing a search for some bullets I have, looking for the age of them (I suspect they were made in the 60s or so) and chanced upon a thread from 2020 here. When I tried to answer it, I got redirected here. So here I am!
 
Welcome to the forum! I visit Ontario often and heading to Ottawa in a couple of weeks. How’s the weather? Never hunted but do try and pop into bass pro either in Toronto or Ottawa. Enjoy the wealth of information on here!
 
Welcome to the forum, I’m currently in Ontario, Elora, after a brief trip to Quebec to ski. Heading to Toronto tomorrow, any good suggestions for shooting shops to visit?

I’ve been wearing shorts all week, to the consternation of the Canadians. A woman stopped me in the street just this afternoon to say ‘winter isn’t over yet!’ within an hour she was proved right… it was hailing heavily with a bitter wind 🤣

Southeastern Ontario. Manitoulin is gorgeous! We used to go up there quite often, generally to Providence Bay for the fishing. I never did hunt deer on "The Manitoulin," but we always saw lots of deer when we were up there fishing. And yes, I avoid Toronto and the whole GTA, which I know as Mordor. ;)

Rifle. More flexible, more range, and in my advanced state of decrepitude, still within my capabilities. For example, I shot a nice black bear in May with a Tikka T3 in 9.3 x 62 with a handloaded 286 grain Nosler Partition. And I took a head shot, so there was no tracking involved. It would have been very challenging for me to take that bear with a bow....and for sure would have involved tracking and hauling a bear out of the woods.

Manitoulin is a Beautiful island & as you say, the fishing & deer running around especially on the Southern end of the island is fantastic! My hunt camp is in the Michaels Bay area & the Blue Jay Creek has plenty of speckled trout!

Welcome, in the late 70's we were into sideband CB and used to have regular contact with 2 guys in Ontario with them coming over to visit the UK
and them making their way to Essex for a evening in a pub we used.
