Countryside Alliance - Licencing and GPs

Here's the Countryside Alliance's latest on Licencing and GPs, setting out what they call "red line" conditions:

Well said the CA, the "Authentic Voice of Shooting".

While BASC "opposes", the CA "proposes".

Now, will the CA confirm that these red lines will be backed up by litigation if necessary. If so, then bye bye BASC and its plethora of ex-police firearms staff, undermining from within.

The police chiefs can have BASC as their own creature. BASC knows how to cringe at the sight of a uniform. What an unholy mistake it was for them to be at the top table and fully engaged. What utter foolishness. The fawning and cringing and serial appeasement which the BASC made their trademark has done for them. It will not be missed.

CA seem to be taking a more proactive stance than BASC. I shall be considering not renewing with BASC.

Exactly the sort of response that should be made. If they are willing to state that they will back that up with legal action then I will be joining them immediately and cancelling my BASC membership.

Agreed. I will be cancelling my BASC membership tomorrow. CA here we come.

Been saying it for years but apparently I was talking s@it

Thank goodness they never merged (although disappointed at the time), now let us see who does what, my money is on the CA.

Didn't rejoin BASC this year, I'll see how CA do and probably join them. Whether they win or not, it's how much fight they put up that interests me. BASC just roll over and take it where the sun don't shine, probably for reasons we'll see eventually (anyone for a cushy job as a Government pet)

By anybody's measure the CA have a significantly more cogent and uncompromising response than BASC. I shall be joining and hopefully so will many more. Maybe the migration of members FROM the organisation which is clearly NOT the 'voice of shooting' will make the point that they need a significant kick-up the backside to bask (sorry) in the praise of members. Well done CA - a worthy representative organisation.

I have an impediment to me moving to CA, as it is a requirement of our syndicate that all members renew en bloc with B.A.S.C., Thus saving big admin chores, but I moved Mrs Finnbear to S.A.C.S.

A nice statement by the CA, I wish I could believe them as credible supporters of shooting but I can't.
Just look at some of the outlandish statements and stances that they have taken in the past. They have several times demonstrated their willingness to throw shooters under the bus in their quest to support fox hunting at the expense of all others.

+1 :thumb:. I share your scepticism :suss:. Leopards & spots methinks.:old:

Is that the same SACS that has been collaborating with the "no GP payment, no certificate " system in Scotland for the last 18 months?

Made the move to CA. BASC membership of nearly 2 decades closed. It is worth noting that the BASC membership team are aware that there is a problem with membership dissatisfaction, which dissatisfaction is not being heard in the upper echelons of BASC with sufficient clarity. I have been asked to put my reasons for leaving in writing. I suggest all who jump ship do so as well. Moving to CA may not be a panacea, staying with a staid state satellite BASC is just folly:they are not our advocates. Perhaps if enough leave now, BASC might get the overhaul required.

I think that's very true. Just leaving anything without making clear why means change will never happen. Personally I was put off by all the nonsense that happened at the top a while back anyway, diverting attention and time from what they really should be doing. Just seems a bit too cliquey to me.

The Ali saga, for me, was the last chance. The final decider after that was when I applied for a BASC Regional Officer post and was not even given an interview.

As I've written before no person should be considered for any BASC position unless they were a member before any job vacancy was announced.

This would have ensured that those wanting to take the members' money (as their wage if they got the job) at least were part of BASC and saw it as a worthwhile organisation worthy of the job applicant being a member of. It would stop any carpetbaggers!

If as a feathered quarry shooter you didn't support BASC before the position was advertised even before applying to work there IMHO you shouldn't have a job application form sent out to you.
