So weird choise of optic to a stalker perhaps but iam thinking of buying this for grouse hunting (combo gun)

its iluminated so my thinking is that i can use it up close for the shotgun bit at 1x and pick off a capercaillie in a tree with the rifle bit.

Works on my 1-6x24 but before i toss money at it am i missing something?

will be used in daylight only.

10x zoom range for 400 euro seems like it has to have a catch

I bought and tried Vector Continental LPVO 1-10x28 and 1-8x24 for Light Sporting Rifle target shooting. The scopes, although Chinese, are phenomenal value for the price. The flagship Continental range use better quality German Schott glass but I personally have no hesitation in using any of their entire range. Unfortunately having fixed 100-yard parallax I'm having to move the pair of LPVO's on as the up to ~1-moa parallax error is just too much for the degree of precision desired shooting at 50m. The club is running a Forester 1-8x24 (50m parallax) on one of the club rifles and a pair of Sentinel-X 10-40x50 on the two club Bench Rest Rifles and all are excellent.

sounds like i should get me one. Continental is a bit pricy for the purpose. long term it might move to a drilling once i get rings figured out. for coming season i need to scope a valmet in 222/12g. purely a daytime walkabout gun

I tend to not spend that mutch on optics when they arent intended for low light use. A big black bird in a a snow covered tree after sunrise doesnt take a zeiss or meostar shot distance is typically 80-150m.

Since i discovered Lpvo with 1x mag and dots i looked at my Combi guns and had a lightbulb moment

Continental at full price may be too much but I have both very reasonably priced in the optics section if you wish to have a look (3-months old used handful of times on the range). The 1-10 is FFP (graduated reticule) and the 1-8 is SFP (illuminated dot). I was going to keep one of them in case ever having a driven hunt opportunity. Clearly personal preference but I wouldn’t hesitate to use one for that purpose or even general stalking.

bit tricky since i am in Finland, had bad experiences with the shipping companies. Very expensive scopes getting stolen before they even cross the border.

Ahh yes, tricky. My sister and brother in law lived in Yarvenpa (and another place that presently escapes me) for thirteen years. Back in Scotland now though.

Just be aware that at 10x you will have a very tight eye box. 24÷10=2.4mm vs 24÷6=4mm exit pupil. I have a 1-10x24 March SFP, great scope but does get very tight as you get to 10x.

That only affects when at 10x tho doesnt it? Does anyone Even make a true 1x with a bigger objective tho. Never ran into one.

i never used a scope like this so il just give the scenario and you guys can tell me if its suitable.

I walk through the forest whistling for hazel grouse and one springs up 5 meters in front of me and clumsily flies away from me between the spruces, i need to take a snapshot before it disapears, Then in the middle of a large clearing i spot a capercaillie in a tree top 150m away, its not going anywhere any Time soon and i have Time to lay down with my backpack and take careful aim.. The gun is a 12g/222 or 12g/243

Yes the exit pupil reduces as you increase the zoom on the scope. So the issue, if you find it to be one is manageable. I shoot mine at 10x prone with no issue, but you do notice it is a small/tight eye box. I thought it worth mentioning as it a noticeable difference to your 1-6x scope.
I think 28mm is the largest objective lens I have seen on a 1x capable LPVO. If you went up to 2x or 3x minimum magnification they increase in size.
