Many fine guns don’t have sling studs. Indeed most shotguns do not. If the rifle is light and balances well carrying it in hand is a joy.
You can always carry it in a slip and many do until they reach their spot or an opportunity presents itself. In Scotland rifles are traditionally slipped when out on the hill, only coming out for the final stalk in. On the continent, where in many places any shooting is only done from a stand or high seat, rifles are in a slip until on your stand or seat - no need for a sling.
You can always drill and fit studs. Not so easy to remove and leave no trace.
