Hi just purchased a tikka 17 hmr can anybody recommend good 17 or 20gr ammo

V max is good starting point, worth trying other incase, but most hmr get on with 17grn vmax

Vmax is a great round but do check the cases for neck splits before shooting them - there are still some boxes out there!

Mine doesn’t like Winchester’s but seems about the same/good with everything else. The most accurate were cci gamepoint but they don’t expand or fragment as rapidly as the 17grain offerings.

I've tried most of the brands in my T1X and the Remington Accutip was the most consistent and tightest groups, also one of the cheapest.

Regardless of bullet - make sure you clean the bore well after each use, they are quite a dirty round and even moderate barrel fouling will impact on accuracy significantly.

I have been using the hornady 17g v max but they’re going back as half the box has cracked necks, they shoot straight but the extractor claw can’t eject them after firing on my t1x.

Will be changing for the cci

Hornady V max were always the tightest grouping in my Weihrauch. Ragged hole/bunch of grapes at 100 yards. But for some reason about one round in six was always a flyer. And a bad one, like three inches adrift. Split neck possibly..?

Switched to Winchester. They opened up very slightly to a 10 mm group at 100 yards but were far more consistent. No flyers. Never noticed any cracked necks before firing. Plenty afterwards but it shot straight and true so I wasn't bothered.

Have tried a lot of ammo in my tikka 17 HMR and the best is federal premium 17 v max and only £15 per 50

My Anschutz shoots Hornady VMAX like a laser.
The XTP ammo slightly less so, but still a quite acceptable group.

Any stuck brass in chamber after you fired?

Thats the most common problem I have had, I believe the neck expands and extractor claw is not strong enough.

Just watched a youtube vid of the CCI A17 HMR shot into ballistics gel and the results were far more impressive than the Hornady VMax that he shot in an earlier vid.

Just phoned around couple gun shops in the northeast to see if they got 500 17 hmr 20 grain hornady xtp shop in birtley none few box's 17 grain Newcastle shop had two box's £18.50 a box so paid to pick up next week . Bothe shops saying same thing been on order for months

Always found Remington 17 grain suits my CZ. Best to try a selection and see what your T1 likes.

Vmax…. Never had a problem with them!! Federal, I used to get split cases regular so stopped using them.

I have a Tikka T1 and use the v-max 17gr all the time. On targets I found it slightly more accurate than the 20gr v-max.
No problems with rabbits and never had a split case or misfire.
