Tastes aweful either or. Can't recommend it.Just thinking,… what’s.22 hornet like in non toxic??
They are sought after in the USA with second hand ones fetching a $1000.Great rifle great price Tim@tcs.
Just sold a lovely T3 in 222 for £200 it was a bargainWell it wasn’t in your original list of options but I’d opt for a 222 built on a 700 action with medium weight barrel .
I find Privi is pretty reliable as a factory load just know your limits if you don’t reloadIn my view, it's a reloaders calibre, if you don't reload I definitely wouldn't recommend it as the factory ammo is pretty poor.

Those who know me personally would no doubt state I love to load but frankly this is one caliber I’m happy with so far. Further out I’d use my .22-250 which is laser flat out to 350 yards easily
That would be bullet construction I’d imagine although hitting a fox should remove the risk of the ricochet!I found Privi to ricochet a lot, whereas I hardly ever get a ricochet with other home loads. Groups were about 2-3" in my rifle, so not great.
Yeah, well known as bullet stoppers those light bodied, thin skinned foxes, perfect back stop !!That would be bullet construction I’d imagine although hitting a fox should remove the risk of the ricochet!
If hit right they will slow down the projectile especially if two are side by sideYeah, well known as bullet stoppers those light bodied, thin skinned foxes, perfect back stop !!
Having had both I discarded the 17Hornet as it certainly doesn't have the stopping power of the 22 Hornet on foxes but as a long-range crow or rabbit round it's brilliant.buy a 17 Hornet !
faster , flatter & just as deadly as the 22 hornet
What’s your definition of long range with the 17 Hornet?Having had both I discarded the 17Hornet as it certainly doesn't have the stopping power of the 22 Hornet on foxes but as a long-range crow or rabbit round it's brilliant.
H4895 no longer imported thanks to ReachWhat sight you have on the 22-250? If it allows multiple zeros (like digi and thermal), just use reduced load? Or maybe you can get away with single zero but it's a gamble...
Of course ammo should be kept separate, but you'd probly want to use different bullets anyway, like SP designed for Hornet. E.g. Hodgdon readily lists 2000fps / 55gr Trailboss load, and also H4895. Velocity not listed since it's a universal load, but data is available from 35gr to 70gr bullets in 22-250.

200-250 yardsWhat’s your definition of long range with the 17 Hornet?
22 Hornet will comfortably match that with 40gr V-Max. Really is a good, cheap, no nonsense, all-rounder out to those distances200-250 yards
I have had the 17 hmr , i would class is at best as " could be used " on fox but dead honest i would pick up the 22lr first ! I had quite a few splash wounds on hares and the flip side zero expansion on longer range crows .Thinking of a short range foxing rifle, I already have a 17hmr but my experience over the years has shown it to be a little underpowered for Foxes. Would a 22 Hornet be a better choice and how do the 2 compare in noise levels ?. Its for use in smaller paddocks around houses where my 22 250 has just too much bark .

from a 140 yard zero its 2 moa come up , 10 mph fv wind 5.6 moa correction. 45 grain seirra hornet 2850 fps . You honestly need the right day for the long shots , its still NOT a 300 yard foxer .200-250 yards
