20 bore 3" mag cartridges

What I meant by that was that the slower burning powder which produces lower velocities would require an increase in the amount of lead you have to give a bird.

I think that the change required is measured in inches, and is a proportion of a forward allowance measured overall in as many feet.
In practice, I think it is not likely that it would make an appreciable difference.

I'm not sure that slower-burning powder would per se produce lower velocities in any case.

this problem, missing/pricking birds, was a sudden type of thing, and seemed to coincide with a change in cartridge and seemed to get worse as time went on to the point of; is it my swing, lead, or what? Anyway, I've been and bought some Gamebore pure gold 2+3/4 6's, and as the adage states "the proof of the pudding" etc, will give them a bash and take it from there....callie

+1 for RC 1 ounce T3 n°6. On a keepers day a few seasons ago I noticed one of my fellow shooters taking extremely high birds on a constant basis. To be embarrassed being in the line with him. I also bought them with good succes, altough much less effective than this man. n° 5's certainly will give an extra bit of lethality.

RC sipe 26gram 6 or i use RC semi magnums 30gram 5 for the real high stuff, they are without a doubt the best 20bore cartridge i have used and i have been through a few in my time ! ;)

Simon, Stone,:-I use the 20 mainly for pigeon shooting but of late I seem to be hitting birds, feathers every where but they just jink and fly on and I hate leaving pricked birds, I use 5s and 6s and just thought that using mags my stop this pricking and deck them....callie

I use a 20 and have for 18 years.
I have a good reputation on game shoots and can kill easily as far as anyone with a 12.
I always use 28gms of 5's in express and half choke in BOTH barrels.
Last year on a well known drive around here on a big shoot killed 33 pheasants for 35 shots ... 8 consecutive l+r's only 2 birds were runners (and were picked)
roost shooting on friday no wind very high pigeons I shot 24 for 47 shots only 5 were not dead.
try them they are the best 20b load going though you have to shoot straight.

This is the type of shooting I meant. Embarrasing if you are close to it in the line. The man that convinced me using RC's had the same approach. He shot left and rights just like I close my shoes.

The lads on my two sides were on the beaters day (and were friends) using non ejectors and i was allowing them to shoot first and then getting another volley off while they were reloading. They both shook my hand afterwards and congratulated me on my performance. We still all shoot together and its very friendly.
Another keyboard sniper having a go without all the facts.

Didn't mean anything wrong with my remark. Writing in another language might not always be 100% in the good sense of the conversation. I just wanted to say that I was next to someone shooting like you described and that I felt a bit embarrassed that he brought the birds down in a way like I close my shoelaces and I struggled to get a bird down at all.
So no reason to be offended. Cogratulations with your shooting.
What gun do you use?

Sorry

I maybe jumped the gun myself with my reply.
I use a 30" berretta silver pigeon sporter.
When you have a once in a lifetime experience and you read a post downing it you understandably react.
again sorry.
The full story is I was backgunning between 2 of my friends so never shared anything as they were empty or re-loading.
I will in all honesty never be in a situation like this again or ever shoot as well.
Regards john
