2016 Fishing on Clywedog Reservoir

For those that are interested in fly fishing I will include weekly updates for my local reservoir Llyn Clywedog a scenic 615 acre upland fishery in Mid Wales. To say our season has started wit a bang is an understatement. Another specimen caught this week 9lbs 11oz rainbow. ATB Gaz

Cracking place to fish,Gaz,was this caught on lure tactics/sunk line?
Hi Tony. Yes everyone likes to blow their own trumpet but Clywedog is probably one of the best fisheries in the country at the moment.. The rainbow was boat caught on an intermediate line and the good old damsel was the successful pattern.
This great brownie 9lbs 02oz was also caught on a damsel the other week. Regards Gaz

Another busy week at Clywedog. Lots of fish being caught all over the lake. With a cold wind the fish have mostly been caught two to three feet down but as soon as the wind drops and there is a little sun the fish are feeding on hatching buzzers. Best fish of the week was a boat caught 7lbs 08zs rainbow with the successful pattern being a cormorant.

We now also have our yearly visitors in residence. Two Ospreys can now also be seen while fishing at the Bigga end of the lake and is a wonderful sight to see. (if only they would buy a permit ) Gaz

Cracking pictures and seriously well done. Would love to catch a large brown like that. Full tails as well. Great to see. Not lake fished for trout for quite a while. The love of the double handed salmon rod got hold of me. Love river fishing for Salmon and Seatrout but by the look of those fish I could kill for a day on the boat.

With the Bank Holiday Weekend included we had a very busy week at the lake. Boats were fully booked out and a good number of bank anglers enjoying some great sport. Good numbers of fish are now being caught on the more imitative patterns like diawl bachs, and buzzers. Best fish of the week was another fin perfect rainbow, tipping the scales at 6lbs 6ozs. A local boat competition was held on Sunday with an average catch of 7.1 fish per angler, so some great sport to be had for those who fancy a visit. Tight Lines Gaz

as a longterm trout angler i must say they are good looking fish however the size of venue is too large for me

With the warmer weather comes the ever increasing fly life. More and more fish are now being taken off the top with small imitation patterns. Got several busy weeks ahead with competitions for individuals and teams so if anyone is planning a visit please check if boats are available before travelling. There is always plenty of room on the miles and miles of bank. Best fish this week so far was a 7lbs 5oz rainbow caught yesterday from a boat. Tight Lines Gaz

Although I understand that the larger reservoirs can be daunting for some anglers who are more used to fishing on smaller venues. But all you have to do is treat each bay or area as individual places and forget about the rest. Every fishery should have an area that is fishing better than others and all you have to do is ask at the lodge to get that information. Where did you fish today ? Tight Lines Gaz

Those sure are some nice trout, how well does it fish june/july? will be in the Snowdonia area for a week soon on holiday from NZ
