.22 lr or .17 hmr

FAC air + 17 HMR
My FAC air .22 will shoot from sub12 up to 43 ftlbs . Take out rabbits at 100 + yards using 21 gr slugs or squirrels at 30 yards at 15 ftlbs and only take seconds to alter , including scope

No sure what to buy?? I’ve a .22 wmr here that I use a bit but the it’s noisy ( ish ) but I don’t mind overly but I don’t find it very accurate past 120 yards really ?? I’m trying to decide whether to go back to the .22 lr and keep the wmr for things that I need it for or buy a .17 hmr to get a bit more distance and use the wmr as a soupe up .22 lr if you get me?? Does the .17 still have bother with cases splitting? I had one 10 years ago and can mind if an odd bullet getting stuck up the barrel after dodgy firings! I’m just no blooming sure what to get😂 any opinions appreciated 😊
I am an Ex HMR owner ( pre the rubbish ammo issue ) It was Ok but the 22 Honet was way better and very easy and cheap to load . I recommend the CZ or Anchulz in the hornet
22LR is a must have still but the Hornet covers all above it till we get into 223 and beyond. Its best if you load for it Factory ammo is dear and hand loading the hornet I have never used my bigger press - its not needed ! Instead just a little arbour press from Sinclaire and a hand die from LE wilson . powder is LilGun a 410 propellent 40-45 seirra bullet that is easy to get
The 22 Hornet covers all the alternatives from 22LR towards the 223
Very good for denning foxes and dealing with them at a decent rage , yet still fine for the table rabbits if you take head shots 200 effective range in good hands out towards 300 on a good day and good wind dope . Re-load it though or it gets expesive ( half the powder of a 223 ) ! Moderates very well using smaller moderators
