.22 pistol

I've owned around 9 pistols since the ban..

Not hard to get if you can justify good reason/relevant club membership..

I am really surprised that you can own more than one pistol at a time, unless they are 'firearms of historical significance'. With this exception you may own more than one but they MUST be kept in a safe at the place where you shoot (conditions apply) and cannot be kept in a domestic dwelling. Its not as though you can get a 'few' for humane dispatch.
It would be helpful to know the conditions for humane dispatch as the exception seems very sensible, especially for those who cull many.

Hampshire may grant a .22 pistol for humane dispatch....the general view of the Home Office is to discourage non professional applicants from acquiring pistols.....some constabularies will not allow them.

That only needs one dyslexic FEO to result in a disastrously worded FAC for a hitman.
