222 query

Too all the stalkers.guides out there a question. If I turned up too stalk a muntjac or cwd with a 222 would you be concerned. I'm asking because I really do want one for stalking.light accurate. Really appreciate your thoughts thanks

Cracking little round that!!i used one for years and have shot a lot of roe deer and a fair few foxes with a .222 so no complaints from me.

Shot hundreds of muntjac with a .222 and about quite a few roe , plenty of gun

Have shot big Roe buck with it and it drops em stone deed.

You arent doing anything illegal, its perfectly ok to shoot muntjak with a 222 but some guides mite be a little funny, probably be best to ask whom your planning to go with before hand. I know up here its perefectly leagal to shoot big highland stags with a 243 but a lot of stalkers/guides would prefer you had a bit more gun.

If you have organised to stalk the animals you mention and it has been agreed that you are not considering taking anything larger requiring a bigger cartridge, then I don't see why it would be a problem personally. In fact I would say it is the ideal tool assuming the the most suitable ammunition is used.

If in doubt, ask whoever is taking you out but it is the perfect rifle in my book. I mean you could do it with a .223 but with a .222, the deer will nod in appreciation before you shoot it.

I was going to do this with my .22-250 and the guide actually said he prefers larger calibers due to shooting in cover and deflections ect but he wouldn’t have stopped me. Didn’t end up using it in the end due to flying and travel practicalities but wouldn’t be too worried about it

Its legal for the species you mention so cant see why it would be an issue.

Just wish .22 CFs were legal for deer in England! I'd love a nice lightweight rifle for summer in .22-250 or something.

One of the best roe rounds ever. I loved my 222, I wish I hadn't traded it in!

A well placed round will easily deal with a Muntie, in a clean and efficient manner.

If you turned up with a .222 I would immediately think that you are man of substance
nothing wrong with .222 for roe down to muntjac
I run 60gr through mine and they hit with authority
