I’ve shot my .223 Tikka Tac successfully out to 900 yards (1:8, 20”) at Bisley (for fun, not competitively) using GGG 69gr factory match ammo.

However, it was a completely calm day.

I have been on the 1,000 on a very calm day - only once with a nice light veil of mist around the target marker boards. The following visit 23/34 mph winds from our 10 o’clock not in the least unusual

In short to answer your question I’d go 26”
However for normal.223 use 22” is fine and ungangly
If I was shooting 1000 yards there’s a few calibres I’d choose before a .223

However in FTR you are pretty much into either .223 or .308 to stay within the rules of the game . I think many are not aware of this fact ? 6.5 0r 6mm Creed etc etc etc etc .... But it is not allowed
