.223 foxing round

Yes, use 35 grn Hornady NTX lead free on fox in a 223, they shoot superbly out of a 1-9 Howa and out of a friends 1-12 Sako at 3600 fps.
They do the usual trick to a fox. Had a couple of runners (2 out of 40 ish), but down to bad placement rather than the round.
And suffer terribly from wind drift at longer ranges? That is relatively slow for a 35 from a .223

I've got a sako .223 1 in 12 shooting 55gr Sierra gamechangers - abseloutely lethal on Charlie and muntjac and scarily accurate. I went for the 1 in 12 over 1 in 8 deliberately because I wanted to be able to shoot the lighter bullets in scenarios where something big might not be as safe - I have other things in the cabinet for when I want to meet some serious lead down range.

I use Hornady 55gr. V-max which is incredibly accurate in CZ 527 with 1/9” twist. All varmint I hit with this bullet are dead on the spot

Just checked the Sierra website. There is no bullet called "game changer" listed amongst the .224 calibres. What is the article no. of your projectile?

Cheers

I noticed that too - Gamekings perhaps? Great round for Scottish Roe as well.

Just re-reading this thread and we've all made the same assumption , that the OP will be hand loading . Regardless, in the current climate, it may well be worth stocking up on what works if using factory , or run the risk of having to re-zero with different batches or brands due to availability .

This is the .224 gamechanger:

It's maybe the 55gr HP gameking he's referring to?

Yeah, maybe. The TGK is not listed as available in 55gr.

Cheers

As above

but I won’t be using them on fox due to cost and why would I worry about lead in it as won’t be going into the food chain
How will you dispose of the carcass ? You see the reason we have this noneclead thing is because people couldn't be bothered to adequately but thier grallochs or dead crows and such
The food chain thing was a tag on to all this and is effectively answered by removing the area of contamination when we talk deer

All my foxes, in fact all vermin, now go in an incinerator, I used to,be guilty of chucking them in the nearest hedge, and they only hung around an evening or two, but I never had access to an incinerator then, but now I do it’s a no brainier.

I bought a box of these and tried them alongside the Hornady. Not much difference at 100m but dropped 1.5 inches more at 200m.

They’re definitely a bit slower and softer but with a 200 yard zero they’re spot on
