.223 Moderator's - Which to avoid, which has the best Db reduction?

Thanks again for comments 👍 I'm getting the impression that with .223 one should avoid aluminium and choose Stainless or Titanium to prolong usage and maybe avoid the Mods using o-rings? I went down a ballistics rabbit hole last night and now I have got a head full of harmonics v accuracy messing with my head! I won't be homeloading anytime soon, factory 55gr V-manx seem to be reliable in almost any barrel and I am simply anticipating that with a 60/175 yard zero and only an inch drop out at 200 yards, that any combination of Barrel, Bullet and Mod should get the job done from a good vantage point to where I know the fox's regularly visit.

I have a BR Reflex T8 it’s great really quietens my .243

My mate has the Wildcat Evo 8 (both our rifles are second hand and came with the mods)

But if I was too buy separately my money is on the Wildcat as its serviceable

Depends on use and budget.

To me a mod for stalking only need to lower the dB to hearing "safe"
and then be as light and small as possible and reduce recoil as much as possible.

Everything is a compromise between size, weight, sound, longevity and money.

Allmost all of them will likely do the job to be honest.

55g V-Max is as good as any. I use Hornady 53g V-Max in my Tikka T3x zeroed at 180 yard. Using a 1.5 inch kill zone (.75inch either side of the sight line) I'm on the crosshair anywhere between approx 30y out to 205y with the top of the trajectory at around 120y. The only thing I'd say about the ASE Ultra range of moderators is being stainless steel they are a bit weighty - not so much the SL5i but it's quite noticeable with the SL7i. Personally I love the fact that they're relatively maintenance free - in fact, I've not done anything to any of mine since I've had them other than clean the threads after each use.

I have an old T4 on my .222 and it works fine. I also have an ase ultra s5 a third eye tactical Spartan and a wildcat evo. They are all ok. I like a bit of weight in moderator, I think it stabilises the rifle on the sticks and helps a bit regarding recoil.

I have had quite a few silencers over the years, I have an Oceania Defence 3D printed inconnel I use on medium size cartridges along with Ase Utra Jet—Z at twice the weight.

Currently I run an older Ase Utra SL5 on my .223 it’s a bit heavier than the current SL5i. I would say the size and volume are about right for the .223 to allow for acceptable suppression.

I researched heavily myself and would also suggest taking into account construction material not only for longevity but also the tone of the suppression. Steel has a deadening resonance property that dulls the noise whereas Titanium and aluminium are a higher frequency and sound louder. Although they may have similar DB figures.

The 3D printed inconnel with the muzzle brake weighs the same as an SL5i which is half the price. I would say the SL5i represents best value for longevity, sound attenuation and the overall size is tiny. Which makes a huge difference in the pointability of the rifle and the silhouette of the rifle isn’t overly affected which I find any reflex design oddly does, this in part alters handling of the rifle.

The most important factor though, a muzzle mounted silencer just looks better 🤣
