Hi All

I fancy doing a bit of long range target this year up to 1000 yards to avoid spending a load of money on a new rifle going to use my .270 which is already in an MDT chassis and shoots ELDX 145g grain well.

Scope wise I dont want to break the bank but need to update the scope to something more target focused as currently most of my scopes are lower mag hunting scopes.

I have narrowed it down to

Arken EP 5
Vortex either venom or viper PST
or to push the boat out a bit cost wise an Element Titan

Any advice on the three above or are they much the same i.e. is it worth throwing the extra £200 on Element vs the EP5 as the gen 1 is down about the £450 mark at the moment.

One of my shooting buddies just bought this for long range. Not had a chance to see how it performed yet, but looks and handling were pretty good when he unboxed it and a decent price too. He is getting into F-TR, hence the high mag and 1/8 click.

Regards

Mark

Go second hand and keep a eye open for a nightforce or similar, I’ve 2x NXS 8-32x56, paid 600 for one 800 the other

FFP for steel plates, SFP for paper target stuff.
Can't really go wrong with a used Nightforce, won't lose money on a sensibly priced one.
If a used Arken EP5 or similar comes up, much the same applies at a lower expenditure.

What scopes on it at the minute? You'd be surprised at how little magnification you actually need. I'm using a sightron s3 8-32 SFP and I'm at about 14 x zoom

I'd use what you've got first and see how you get on.

I originally used a vortex diamondback 6-24? (The cheapest one they do) It was on the gun when I got it and I had no issues at all, the only reason I swapped it out was to go SFP instead of FFP.

I’ve used a Vortex Strike Eagle 5-25x56 successfully at 1000yds.
Rugged, tactical scope AND unlimited lifetime warranty so you may as well buy used for about £450-500.
Viper is very good, better glass, but smaller tube, if you care.

I have switched to an S&B PM2 for long range stuff now, but only because I was left some cash

Cheers for all the advice everyone. In the end I managed to get a Viper for a decent price second hand so I will try that out and then if I get into I will upgrade later. Also I like the fact that vortex have an unlimited warranty/ I do get on with vortex glass.

SWFA 20x42 30mm MOA GEN 2 is great for this I know a couple of lads have them who plink metal out to silly ranges. Bought them on the Bay for around £100.

i have an arken ep5 mk2 7x35x56 ,first one failed and was replaced after a long wait <avoid arken> i have two element titan 5x25x56 brilliant scopes ,over £600 new but do come up around the £400/£450 price also has a life time warranty
