Hi guys Ive never done this before im looking for a kit to get me going i dont want to spend a fortune can anyone recommend anything to get me going

Used stuff is fine thanks

It all depends on the amount of shooting/reloading you are looking at doing Steve,
Having reloaded years gone by when I used to shoot hundreds a year, then a press and all the associated equipment was used, now reloading probably a hundred .223 per year max, then I am quite happy handloading with the Lee Precision Classic Loader

You can do it on the cheap with 2nd hand stuff from this forum... and you will be able to recoup your money if it's not for you, simply resell on here.

I purchased;
Lee breech lock press and bushes £80
Lee 2 die set £19
RCBS beam scales £50
Lee powder trickler & powder thrower for £30
Lee case length trimmer, chamfer tool, and primer pocket tool £10
RCBS hand primer £50
Lee powder funnel FOC
Decent digital callipers, Mitutoyo £85 new.
Derraco comparator sets are good value off SD.

Enjoy the hobby :tiphat:

Sorry for the lack of replies it’s been a mental few days of work kids doing football and sorting out selling head torches and Xmas concerts

Steve, I represent Derraco here in the UK and we supply a variety of reloading tools. Not second hand, but I’d say very very well priced, especially compared with some of the better-known brands.

I’d suggest the comparator kit for starters would serve you very well, and possibly some of the other stuff (check out the SRT case trimmer).

Have a look on the website - www.Derraco.co.uk - and if you have any questions about anything, don’t hesitate to drop me a line or give me a call.

Enjoy your reloading journey!

How much is the complete set of need please
If that’s to me about the comparator kit, it’s just £50 and includes all headspace and bullet comparator inserts, as well as the main body to attach to your calipers (which I can also supply if required).

I’d suggest it’s well worth a browse around the website when you have a little bit of time 😊

you dont need a comparator set to get started ,put the £50 to reloading kit ,get the fancy stuff once you have the basic kit and have loaded a few 100 rounds

I’d argue that a bullet and/or case comparator is actually an essential bit of kit when it comes to reloading. You need to know how far you are bumping your shoulders, and how far you are seating your bullets using a CBTO measurement, rather than just calipers for the OAL measurement etc.

Once you accept this fact, the Hornady stuff which is most commonly used is both expensive and poor quality. The Derraco kit has everything anyone would need for their reloading journey, is very high quality, and at £50 is virtually a bargain. Might as well get decent stuff and get it right.

Second hand high quality stuff is also good value of course but that’s better for things like a press and dies etc 👌🏼

There seems to be some conflicting views which doesn’t make my choice any easier lol
Is there any videos of these tools being used anyone can show me so I can see ?

Hi Steve, you’ll find loads on YouTube mate. Good channels include Ultimate Reloader, Bolt Action Reloading, Winning In The Wind, Eric Cortina etc.

This video shows the Hornady kit in action:

All comparator kits are basically the same with the differences just being machining quality and price etc. They all do the same thing 😊
