.22lr ammo

Hi, apologies if this question has been posted 100 times before but I couldn't see it after a quick read through.
What's peoples opinion in best ammo? Don't mind about the price as I'm not spraying 250 rounds a day. I want hard hitting accurate rounds for rabbits!

What does your gun prefer?
My Tikka T1 performs pretty good with SK plus (yellow and black box).

Used the blue boxed Win subs for years.Once they changed to the black box subs they were never the same.
Now use RWS subs expensive but quality.
I will use Eley 38grs as a backup choice.

you say hard hitting, are you looking for subsonic ? like triggertrix my old brno is not fussy but of late I have been using the cci segmented hollow point and they work well, but getting expensive. However only use my .22lr where noise is an issue.

As already said try a few.
But one to not waste your time with is the 42 grain .22 subsonic from Winchester manufactured in the great US of A.
If you’re lucky enough to find the older offering manufactured in Australia then that’s a different matter.
Smaller boxes, loose packed shite from US. Rounds contained in a little tray for the good stuff.

Just got a new T1X last week, first new rf for nearly 60 years, and RWS seem to be doing well through it, 16" barrel!
Always used Eley subsonic previously, but tried CCI and Winchester that both gave supersonic 'cracks' on occasions. 24" barrel, though!

In terms of accuracy, my CZ 457 works best with Norma TAC-22. CCI Mini-Mag is also OK. However, that's for target shooting - I'm guessing that for rabbit shooting, you might want subsonic ammo?

Go to a decent shop and buy a box of everything and test it.
My tikka t1x works fantastic with CCi and tac-22. My mates is brilliant with the tac-22 but he may as well throw the CCi at whatever he's aiming at, it just doesn't group at all with his gun.

Get one box of everything of worth , test them and buy plenty . I tend to shoot more HV than subs , though i will often use super low power .22rf , subs etc . Don't cheap out . Don't worry about HV having a bit of a crack its does not put the rabbits off that much at all with a moderator and dead bunnies never hear anything
Personally speaking SK , Lapua , CCi Velocitors in the HV . Lapua subs are the most accurate .22 rf ammo i have shot ( once put 9 in the same hole at 100 yards ) would have been ten but i thought something was wrong and only one bullet hole appeared on the paper , Put one in the sand as i thought there was something amiss , still wonder if i made that last shot ? Really was one exact hole but only a 9 shot one . Strangely it was at a club and the batch the RFD had was gone the first day the shop re-opened !
You get another 30 yards Trajectory path with most HV over subs and it seems to not really bother other rabbits very much at all , even with my really old parker hale mod

HV do give significantly more thump than subbies. Stick to the stand HV from Lapua, RWS or Eley. I have never had good results from CCI Minimags.
