.22LR frangible vs .22 FAC air rifle

Not really my experience with FAC air having owned both.
Also its not like .22lr is magically flat out towards 100 yards if zeroed at the general 50 yards. If it was the .17HMR wouldnt be so popular.

Seems that a pellet running at around 900 ft/sec is very similar trajectory to a .22 subsonic - at least as far as 60 yards - after that, due to the poor BC, its very loopy.

I've just started trying out some H&N HP slugs out of a brand new FAC FX Impact MK2 SE. The H&Ns' packaging says they aren't recommended for use in a standard FX barrel, but 10 of them still seem to shoot into 1/2" - 3/4" at 55 yards (and that seems true of all 5 available weights). In fact all the H&N slugs produce tighter groups than FX's own Hybrids, which tend to spoil things with a couple of outliers. I'm looking forward to working out how well they do at twice the distance. Incidentally, this Impact itself is without doubt the best PCP, and the best Impact, I've ever used. And it's still on its factory settings.

Have you considered a moderated shotgun with sub sonic rounds, maybe a .410? Then you could shoot them on the ground or in the air. Although I don't know how quiet they actually are to be honest and how quiet you need to be.

My game dealer want only head shot or netted rabbits.

H&N slugs are the best slugs I have used and have tried a few. 21 gr are amazing, even at 120+ yards and often taken rabbits at that distance with head shots .

At the moment I'm not getting tighter groups with the H&Ns than with JSB Heavy pellets, but then again the Impact is still ticking over at the original factory settings. The 21-grainers are great at 50m but my groups fall apart by 100m, which is where slugs start to make sense. The 25-grainers are currently doing the best of the 5 H&N weights, but I reckon all of them need to be leaving the rifle faster. I picked up some JSB Knockout slugs today, too, but no time to try them as yet.

what head size , 217 or 218 ?

Fac air is a very effective tool. I have an FX Crown in 22, these FX rifles can be tamed down at the turn of a power wheel on the side of the stock and lend themselves to farm yard pest control. Rabbit control from a vihical is also practical and though 30fpe is less than half the energy of subsonic 22lr practical ranges are not that much different. For anyone who does not have a 22lr the 25 cal may be the prefered option as the greater energy is getting closer to rimfire performance.
The downside is cost. PCP airguns are quite a bit more expensive than a 22 bolt gun and a dive bottle and charging gear will be required for topping up with air, however quality pellets retail at about £20 per thousand considerably less expensive than long rifle.
Hope this helps a little.
