.22LR frangible vs .22 FAC air rifle

I'm inclined to agree, looks like I'll be applying for a variation next week! I've heard that you don't have to stipulate the calibre for FAC air when you submit the variation?

Yes you need to stipulate what cal and don’t for get to include a mod as well

I use my FAC FX crown .22 more than any other gun I own . Shooting with H&N slugs is just unbearable running at 40 ftlbs or I can change to 18 gr pellets running at 36 ftlbs or I can Change settings including scope settings with in 30 secounds to shoot at 12ish ftlbs

Been looking at getting an FX in .22 Fac but might prefer the Dreamline with conventional wooden stock for shooting off sticks, but can`t find any info on shot count in full power mode, any idea please, and what do you get in your crown ?

What about CB caps or 22 Shorts in the 22 Rifle - can these be obtained still. They produce c30 ft lbs of energy and would be an immediate solution. Or could you load a 22 air rifle pellet into a 222 cartridge and power it with just the primer?
I am working on this by using .223 cases with the shoulder pushed back to .222 dimensions in a .222 die the only point so far is the top edge of the case turns by 2mm in when chambering the case into my .222 Blaser (incoming). I think I will have to shorten the cases a by smidgeon.

I get about 75 -80 shots at 40 ftlbs

I’ve got two FAC air rifles both FX MK1 Verminator .22 and MK Impact .25
I would pull out the Verminator for this job it also has the bonus that you can adjust the power easily taking it from around 24ft lb to 8!!

That seems to be in line with what I'm being told, a .25 at around 50ft/lbs will start to present a ricochet hazard, so looking for something that will lob a 25gn .22 pellet at around 900 ft/sec - assuming it'll stabilise at that velocity etc. In theory, with a 45 yard zero I'm good for 10 to 50 yards for a 1" kill zone, then its just a 2" drop at 60 and 4" at 70.

your .22 will still be the same power as the .25 you don't want if you're running it to that spec mate , youd need to use a 16 or 18 grain pellet to lessen the energy

Any breeze at all will buck a pellet all over the place. Go for 22lr subs with safe backstop.

Trouble is I don't have an absolutely safe (as in .22Lr safe) backstop. The air rifle pellets will hopefully do a lot less damage & wont carry as far, but I need to test that theory!

And you'll also wound much more at anything over 35-40yrds if breezy so it's going to be a trade off.

Having used .22LR and .20.30 FAC air, i would pick my .20 for this job every time, inside 65yard with a .20 running 28ftlb is safe with no ricochets a 13.7 grain pellet travelling at 925fps is no worse in the wind than a 22lr just learn to use what you have until your comfortable with it's traits. there is no such thing as a flat shooting bullet or pellet and they are all affected by the wind to some degree.

And you wouldn't go wrong with a decent Rapid 7 Mk1 or Mk2 quite a few still kicking around easy to maintain and tune and will still shoot as good as most modern air rifles. most of the modern top brands these days are based on it, why have a copy when you can have the real thing, i'm biased though i have 4 of them and 2 more in build.
