22lr half inch at 100y

I have a 2006 model Cz 452 and regularly shoot 100yds at my age it gives me a challenge , with it the best ammo for me is CCI mini mags, on a good day CCI Blazers and Geco semi auto will give me good results I use 50mm and 25mm splatter dots,on a good day I obliterate the 25mm ,I have a 1yr old 457 which I am running in on the 50yds some brands of ammo are not the best I have tried Norma Sk long range Eley contact Fiocchi RWS they are like a wet phart and on 50yds 3-4" low, now this week the 457 is coming on nicely with the Blazers and Geco like the CCI's I get a nice crack,if I am into a serious day I stick with the CCI's on the 100yds, the downside for me is the variation in prices near me CCI mini mags £16 x100 Dorset and Bridgend £9.00 x100 some one is doing Aqullia hv £6 x100, I am all for trying different brands but of late it's been a waste of money, so revert back to CCI's.

This has just made me want to dabble in more subs. Winchester packed a punch. Eley shot okay.

Is there a cult favourite? Might try some cci after that group 😂

That's an exceptionally good group if its at 100 metres. Even if its the best of several groups, it's still exceptional. Was that indoors or outdoors?
It was outdoors. The one shot next to number 8 was a shot aimed at number 8 after tweaking the scope. Not part of that group.

Lapua Midas haven’t been mentioned yet and are very accurate in my cz452. 10-15mm ten shot groups at 50m but I’ve never tried at 100m

Post #9 did but they’re unlikely to gain too many supporters at c£25 per 100.

You are correct, I think I must have missed a whole page of the thread!
I also must have got a good deal on Midas then as I only paid £20/100 clearing the last out of my local gun shop. Cheaper than centrefire ammo is what I tell myself.

You certainly didn’t purchase them at the NSRA Camp Bisley shop!

Table robbed from "Accurate Shooter" Certainly demonstrates the differences in accuracy between manufacturers NB: this is a few years old & bit out of date. You are being redirected...

Has anybody tried the new (ish) Sellier & Bellot 40GN sub HP? How do these compare? (I think the table entry is the high velocity)

The table shows the OLD Eley sub HP 40GN The new version is 38GN
In my experience what was the best hollow point sub on the market is now the worst & after testing several batches in 5 different guns recon the group at 100yds should be nearer 2.5 inches. What is Eley playing at?

I bought an Anschutz 1813 at Camp Perry back in 1984 then brought it back to the UK in 1985 to use at the Deal club but working overseas always got in the way. I had bought a 2500 brick of Eley club back then and I still have around 500 of them laying around, the rifle is in the retirement safe as at 72 I will not be doing prone English match again getting up is too hard afterwards.

Eley Club still work, not quite as well as the old stuff. But then Tenex/Match etc are available.

For hunting I have to unfortunately use the round nose Club . No where near as efficient a killer as the old 40GN hollow point. But you have to hit the target first.

I still have around 500 of them laying around.......

If your collection had been the Subsonic Hollow point I would be on the next bus to collect them!

That's some epic testing; thanks for posting the link.

Looks like all the testing was done on a single lane indoor range, so zero wind. Outdoor shooting, if you have a 3mph variation in wind which you do not correct for, this will give you over a 1 inch shift in your point of impact at 100 yards.

This weekend I re zero'd my Bergara B14R (MDT LSS XL chassis) as I'd put a new scope on it, ahead of a world championship qualifier match 11/12th March.

In no wind it shot the best 5 shot groups it's ever done at my local 51m and 100m range.

I shot a 10shot group at 100m but the wind had picked up and was swirling around the quarry range.

On a good day, this rifle/ammo/shooter combo can achieve 1/2MOA at 100m but it is not typical/reliable performance.

Previously shot Team and Tenex out to 262m (they, and Match, are the same thing, only differentiated into subtype by batch testing at Eley):

No worries. I hope many find the link useful.

Despite being produced in 2010, I have found the tables results to be pretty much bang on & compare well with all my (& others) tests. It has saved me a fortune in ammo testing.
However, I do get sweet talked by the occasional gun dealer into buying the "Latest best available that all the local hunters are using" & regretting it when it groups like everything else..... Generally four close and one flier.
I now keep a printed copy in the car.

Wind has always been the main limiting factor. If you are using an accurate bullet it does help to know that you missed because of the wind (or personal error) & not because your chosen bullet wont shoot a 2" group at 100yds!

Tiz a great shame that Eley has adopted a marketing strategy of flooding the market with multiple flavors, none that I have tested group well, or perform any differently.
"Specially designed for semi-auto" etc. Sounds like Microwave kitchen paper to me! (Modo Paper Products 1980's rebadge of kitchen paper to occupy more supermarket shelf space & create another sales increase).

Please Eley, stop the salesman led bull, concentrate on fewer product lines, that just damage an impeccable target history & give us back a hunting subsonic hollow point product that works. You were once the best at what you do..

Hi looking for new 22lr and came across dolphin rifles website showing some custom 22lr built on cz457 action with accuracy of .5moa at 100y, have any of you got one or shot one, can't find any reviews online
Thanks
My cz 455 can group under a inch at 100 yards weather depending etc correct ammunition

RWS subs. Tikka T1X. Dead rabbit at 100 yds all day long. Silent but violent, cheap, soft lead, good expansion. How accurate do you have to be, unless target shooting.

It’s not really a question of how accurate do you want to be!….as long as it does the job and you are happy👍
But I enjoy shooting a tight group at 100yds on occasion……and as we know…some guns prefer different ammo…so I enjoy the mucking about😀

Tried the RWS a while ago, pretty much the same as the Winchester sub hollow, four good, one flier. Testing: not just Eley but several other manufacturers, different rounds/batches in 5 different guns. Generally the results followed the table above.
Most recently I was given a few boxes of Swartklip (Cape Town, round nose high velocity) for testing........... they were worse than most!
A wildcard that works surprisingly well is Remington 22 Cyclone quite old stock, noisy but accurate, I will probably have to work out a range card for the long range crows.

I wouldn't shoot a bunny at anything over 70yds (head shot only), plus they are not about in any numbers yet, tail end of flu & mixy, but crows get it out to 140yds. You wont see a crow at less than 90yds here. So an accurate round is a must, and a hollow point gives a cleaner kill..
