22lr half inch at 100y

I was testing some ammo at the weekend on my old Mauser 201 .22lr. The Winchester subs were appalling (even allowing for my shooting skills!). the CCI stuff I had was ok but the RWS subs grouped pretty well and so did the Hornady target non hollow points. I've not used the .22 for anything other than plinking but I have a rabbit job to do on a farm so want something I can reliably use out to say 75 yards. At 100 yards my groups using this rifle are pretty terrible. Pic is my set up and also the RWS. I've not tried the RWS100 yet though or their more expensive R50. These RWS are just the normal ones...

My LRP with RWS match will shoot around 1 moa, out to 100, and easily keep up with 223’s etc out to 300,
It’s all wind and ammo tbh,
0.5 is doable but probably got to be in a wind free tunnel type range,

Outside 300 is great fun and sooooo cheap when compared to centre fire ,

I have put 8 through the same bullet sized hole at 100 yards , could have been ten if i didnt think something had gone wrong . I used to know one of our Olympic / team with a scope prone these folks will shoot those sort of groups regular . They travel abroad just to buy ammo after testing different lots
Before you jump into a real pricey 22 lr just remember we are facing a lead ban, who the heck wants one if we dont get a massive amount improvement in the ammo ?
BTW , zeroing and training i expect moa at 100 so long as the wind plays nice and a good batch of ammo ( which seems to be quite an issue with sporting rf ammo of the last few years )

The RWS subs are they hollow point or solid
looking for a new HP accurate round. CCI new batch I just took back are pants compared to the old slab I have just used up

i recently built a high end 22 , RIM-X action proof barrel MDT ACC competition chassis and i've stuck a 5-25 PM2 on top

using SK long range match ammo it will hold under an inch at 100m , in fact it's simply unbelievable what it will do to over 400m , with a better shot behind it i can imagine with batched ammo it likes 1/2 moa is entirely feasable

Hi looking for new 22lr and came across dolphin rifles website showing some custom 22lr built on cz457 action with accuracy of .5moa at 100y, have any of you got one or shot one, can't find any reviews online
Thanks
I have an old Sako Finnfire 94s Varmint with a barrel chopped to 17" that consistently delivers outstanding accuracy with Eley 10X, but not quite as good as sub half MOA at 100 ... 0.75 MOA most of the time. I notice that in the benchrest community it is increasingly common to see very old BSA Martini Internationals in the line-up. I purchased one myself and have to say that it rivals my Sako.

In the end of the day you have to kiss many frogs to get your prince(es). You have to find what works with your rifle.
If CCI works, stick with it. I found many bullets very a curate in my P94S but R50 was most consistent to use in the comps.i have not tried R100 yet but will do. If nothing else to give my self something to do🤣

Posted this on another thread earlier this year - all at 50m - stuck with CCI ever since!

A scoped rifle? If so, did you test all that ammo in one sitting?? How many rounds of each did you fire of each brand before you shot the group for 'record'? If you fired a handful of rounds before you shot for group you need to get something fixed. Not to offend, but that isn't very good grouping at 50M. This is 10 shots from my Tikka T1X, 10 shots RWS, 50M. Like i said, not trying to offend. Just concerned. ~Muir

I was shooting SK LRM at 275 yards. yesterday and wind allowing, was hitting a 4" plate. Good ammo. Scarce here. ~Muir

None taken - just don’t open any unexpected parcels bearing a NI postmark!
Yep all at one sitting with a rifle only just bought - I guess the only thing that needs fixing is the owner of the rifle though encouragingly he can now shoot bug-holes with said rifle on one of his increasingly few good days. As per the original thread the idea came from my very recent return to .22 rimmy and the many reports of poor consistency with differing brands of ammo - hence the amateurish sampling which may or may not confirm this but at least gave me an idea of which bullets to buy for my rifle.
Happily, since settling on CCI subs and getting used to the rifle the owner is now confidently taking headshot rabbits out to 100 yards or so - which is much better than he hoped expected.
By happy coincidence only yesterday and as part of my sampling I bought some SK - if they shoot half as well as yours I will be a happy bunny - unlike the bunnies on my permission.

Great. Just keep shooting that ammo and of course, don't clean the rifle bore. See what happens by the end of the first box. You might be surprised. I'll shoot anything at tin cans but for accuracy, I like to stick with one flavor. Switching from Fiocchi 40 grain Subs to SK LRM last week my Tikka needed 20 rounds to settle in to good accuracy. RWS Match and SK seem to be interchangeable. You just never know. ~Muir

SK Match and LRM shoot very well from all my 22’s semi included, just a bit too expensive to run them through all my 22’s

I can just about get 1 MOA / 1 inch at 100m with my CZ 452 but this is entirely ammo specific. My rifle really likes RWS subs but isn't anything like as accurate with anything else. I use a digital day night scope (Wulf) which allows me to program in 4 preset zeros - mine are set at 35m 52m, 73m and 100m. But if I switch to Norma I can't group less than an inch much beyond 50m.

I've found SK Rifle match to be very consistent in my old cz452 Varmint

I’m pretty happy shooting rabbits at 100M with my CZ452 off sticks. Second mild dot on my little 3-9x40 scope is spot on at 110M. Nothing fancy, just works 👍
